These seem to be advertised a lot in recent publications. Have you any experience of using this dish and what is it like to fit?

Please help.

Many have fitted them and report it as being ok to fit for a good DIY person. Word of warning, it will limit your view of the satellite, no trees etc. You can't just spin your van around or move it a few feet to get a clear view as you can a portable dish. Most with roof mounted dishes still carry a backup dish. Good luck.JTS.

I have the Maxview Semitronic which is the same as the crank up in dish size but has a motor to raise the dish

I prefer it because all the stresses are taken on a pole that is fastened to a wall inside the caravan such as a wardrobe etc and so the thin aluminium of the van roof is less strained

It is true that you have to think about pitching and avoid trees etc but you do have to do that with the portable tripod set up and on the van roof it can clear obstacles

I carry a tripod and dish but so far in 2 years plus have not needed to use it yet

Fitting the Semitronic is quite easy and the instructions are very well written and easy to follow

Hi Al

I have the Maxiview Crank Up and have no complaints about the it. You do need to make sure there is no obstruction to the signal and in very high winds you need to take it down.

We carry a back up dish for use if the wind is high, as it can be placed in lee of wind, and in case the van can not be sited clear of obstructions. We also have Sky+ so with both up we can still have full Sky+ facillities.

The Maxiview is easier to set up then you can use the direction of the Maxiview to help set up the second dish.

Hi B

Which one/type do you use

We have had to put the dish down or guy it in high winds

Last time away at Blackpool it was the night of very high wind mid March when attempts to refloat Riverdance were abandonned

I had the dish down for prudence until HRH needed to watch a football match so it had to brave the elements!!

I've seen several roof mounted dishes guyed against the wind

The tuning bars are all the way across on signal quality and almost to the end on signal strength

Its much better than the house mini dish which is accessible and kept tuned for optimum readings

Maxview are very good at sending spares quickly

I don't know if the crank up uses the same plastic clamp screw/collar but I have cracked 2 using the plastic spanner so now its just tightened by hand and an extra aerial clamp is used on the pole as well
