I have pretty decided, after much research, to go for the Maxview MXL020 FTA satellite digital receiver to complete my satellite system.

Has anyone got one of these? What is the EPG like?

Has anyone seen any good prices - The best I've found is £85 +p&p.

Thanks

Tim

I have the older box- no EPG- is one available on freesat. Device is excelent in all respects. Minimal delay in decoding and shows picture as you scroll through menu. Maxview customer services is excellent. I lost the big knob off my tripod- got the small nut!!!!! Phoned Maxview and asked to buy one. They put one in the post no cost.

If you went for either the Grundig or Goodmans, Freesat units in the HD form they are 12 vDC units, with Freesats superb EPG.

Thanks for the comments

Having looked into this I thought that the Freesat boxes might not be so easy to use outside of the UK as they are primarily intended for use in UK. My understanding was that the Maxview box does come with an EPG. I am mainly interested in using the satellite system on the Continent with occasional UK use.

I'm no expert so I might have got this wrong!!??

As to the Maxview price I would probably wait and see if anything came up in the January Sales. No great hurry as the 'van is now in it winter cover until February 2010 Half Term.

Further comments are very welcome as I'm still very much a novice in this area.

Thanks

Tim

In so far as Freesat being limited to receiving only UK targeted channels, yes, but do you need foreign language channels? If watching foreign TV is what your looking for then you don't want Freesat as thats not an option.

Freesat is not any more difficult to use outside the UK than "free to air"; in one respect it's easier as it only responds to the right satellite cluster.

The Maxview might well have an EPG, but the quality and thus value of these vary wildly. The normal "free-to-air" offering is what's on now on each separate channel.

Not a concurrent selection of channels, for the whole day and each day of the week as Freesat transmit. My own personal view is that that feature alone is the reason to go Freesat. I have found it very difficult to know what is going to be on that I would like to watch without a quality EPG, particularly when out of the UK.
