I would go down the van insurance route my self green flag will have third pary insurance and have a duty of care that all their contractors are fit for pupose which obviously yours were not.

inform them that the window is broken and rain is getting in that will speed them up a bit.

hi thats ok.

rain its pouring here got a damp patch appeared since on holiday in cornwall with all the rain.

caravan still not back from dealers green flag promised it would be first thing this morning now 11.50 still nothing.

if she was at home i could put something over the seal were the rain is getting in.

dont think things can get much worse.

really dont wont to claim on my van insurance as we didnt cause the damage and they have said they cant act as an intermedate as DAS only deal with motor vechile claims so i would not get any thing from the garage in that case unless a got my own lawyer

Michele, sorry to read about your poor service from Green Flag. You are obviously a member of the Caravan Club (Mayday). Have you contacted CC to see what they have to say about the matter?

latest update

2 months later and still waiting for some good news

green flag didnt and dont wont to no.

after a 4 page letter and photos they passed it on to the garage involved who called us liers and that we were treated with the upmost respect? what a load of b******?

all they say is prove it how i asked it was 1.40 in the morning i didnt happen to have a camera to hand so sorry.

so went out and got a inderpendant assors report that proved that all the damage was done by incorect jacking of the caravan.

it is a write off. didnt i cry so did the kids.poor little sods

sent report to green flag last week and the garage have got one week to deside what they going to do.

green flag have said that it will have to go through the garages insurance.

cc insurance been great help offered to handle whole thing but have followed green flags advice so far hoping this was the right choose?

green flags responce didnt cover how we were treated at the road side so went to there top dog on that part of it still waiting 4 a responce on that one.all they have done is pass the buck. going to get my solicator on the case lost out on 3 more weekend breaks think a little compo is due from both.

From comments been said on this tread i would like to know whether RAC or Arrival recover the caravan when its only the caravan damaged. We have on Forum discussed this before and it seems that they do not, its the car which is covered and the caravan will be recovered along with it if the car is at fault. As in 58 years driving and i have never had a wheel or bolts come undone could someone explain how this happens. Look forward to comments.PS my Skoda is covered for all countries but does not include caravan if that is the only fault, but will recover caravan as i said earlier.by RAC.

Blimey Michele what you have gone through would test the patience of a saint! If you get no joy try "dont get done get dom" or ring watchdog, hell even try the local papers to name and shame the recovery firm who came out to you. Kick up a fuss there's nothing like a bit of bad publicity to get things sorted.

Good luck!

Robert

I hadn't had a wheel bolt come undone in 40 years of caravanning and I know that I checked the bolts the night before with a torque wrench as I usually do before every trip

I can only assume that overnight someone tried to remove the Alko wheelclamp by lossening the bolts that were accessible

I now check just before setting off

There was no surprise from the insurers or the dealer and comments were all to the effect that its always the nearside wheel

It comes up on websites from time to time with various theories

Wheel balance seems a good theory but I had just had my wheels balanced and the van is less than a year old and

It tells you to check wheel bolt torque after 20 miles in the handbook and I had the torque wrench ready to do that but the wheel came off after only 12 miles

Its all ben repaired now and is back on the road

One year I remember the CC towcar of the year comp had a van lose a wheel and there was also problem in the midlands with new ambulances having the same problem a few years ago and its assumed that their fitters know the job

The insurer remarked that left hand threaded bolts on the nearside would save them money when I broached the subject!

Robert the RAC you get with a new car etc doesn't cover faults on the van but the RAC Arrival through the C & CC does

I have both but ironically used the car one when I called them out and they still assisted in replacing the lost wheel with the spare and sending us off on our way
