Hi Folks

I'm editing and reposting this with a new title as I've not had much response. (Thanks to Lord B for your reply to the first post)

We have had to revise our October Half Term Break due to C's sister being very seriously ill in Cambridge. We are going down for the long weekend 25-27 October onwards to help out her Dad who is her full-time carer.

Recommendations for Cambridge sites would be VERY helpful, we are thinking of Roseberry Touring Park, Willingham as that has room. CC's Cherry Hinton and CCC's site are fully booked as it's Half Term. We are strangers to the Cambridge area. My sister-in-Law lives in the Chesteron area of Cambridge and so we are looking for a site with good access to that area and to our route from Merseyside.

We thought that we could then have a few days well-needed break on the nearest coast, ie, Suffolk. I realise that it is half term week and so sites may be more busy.

We have never visited Suffolk at all and would be grateful for campsite recommendations. We love small, sites with seaviews, from the 'van if possible, and EHU. We're not bothered about other facilities and we are happy to do without a sanitary block. We certainly don't need clubrooms, etc but TV terrestrial/digital TV would be good in case the weather is not too good. As we have the Sorento we can get on and off most pitches even in October.

In Suffolk I am considering:

Kessingland CC site (seems full on the website)

Church Farm, Adleburgh

Cliff House, Dunwich

Cliff House, Leiston

Harbour Caravan Park, Southwold

Azure Seas, Corton

Vulcan Arms, Sizewell.

We'd be very grateful for any comments on these or other similar sites from folks who've stayed there.

I have looked on the campsite search section for Cambridge and Suffolk but as we don't know the areas at all some personal recommendations would help.

Thanks in anticipation

Best wishes

Tim

I have not stayed at any sites in Suffolk as we stay in a friends cottage at Southwold, but have looked at some sites in case we need one in the future as we love going to the Suffolk coast so much. The Southwold site has a rather run down air about it, but is in a lovely position right by the harbour and next to the Blythe estuary and close to Walberswick. Everything is very quiet there, but you are close to the small town, a good sandy beach, cycle paths to Walberswick and Southwold, great walking, just love the area. The site at Dunwich is on the cliff top close to the NT on Dunwich common. There is not much at Dunwich in the way of shops, but again good walking and cycling, lovely beaches though not so sandy and very very quiet. Not sure about the site at Aldborough, but the site we had a look at in the town had a large area of statics which were holiday homes or 2nd homes. The touring area is separate and not far from the pebbly, but lovely beach. The site is close to Aldborough and again lots of cycling and walking potential

We stayed at the Vulcan Arms in Sizewell earlier this year. Nice little CL, away from the pub so no disturbance from cars etc. Right next door to the power station and beach. Might be a bit windy at this time of year.

Nice pub too !

We had previously stayed at Cherry Hinton in Cambridge which is in an old quarry and typical CC standard. Shame it's fully booked.

Thanks everyone for your greatly appreciated help.

After researching the options and allowing for Half Term "busyness", October closures, waterlogged pitches, etc we have booked

A CC CL at Cottenham north of Cambridge.

For the Norfolk break we have booked Azure Seas at Corton where we have been given a cliff top pitch - hope it's not too windy.

Thanks again everyone who replied.

Tim
