Merrose Farm, St Mawes, Cornwall

Just booked for a week in August at Merrose Farm cc site in Cornwall. Any reports, good, bad, or indifferent would be welcome. The missus was concerned that it still had vacancies for August, when most of the other Cornish cc sites with toilet blocks etc appeared to be booked up.

We stayed there in September 2004. It's a really lovely site, with the usual top-class CC facilities and a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches. We found the wardens pleasant and helpful at all times. You can walk up out of the site, cross the road, and then walk down lanes and footpaths to the coast path. Portscatho has shops and pubs. Veryan and Portloe are close. St Mawes is a short drive, and you can catch a ferry up the river and spend a day in Truro. Very handy for St Just. We shall certainly go there again.

i agree with the comments that it is indeed an excellent site and in a lovely area. The wardens were great, at least in 2005. Just beware that in high season it can be very busy, as is the local area. Costs can exceed

Hi mark, Merrose Farm is a great site. It's on 2 levels due to the undulating land but most of the pitches are level, if you see what I mean. Terraced may be more accurate. Showers etc. are the usual standard and there's a large play area for kids off to one side. St. Mawes is a few miles away and shouldn't disappoint. Pretty as a postcard and best seen in the evening as the crowds have largely disappeared. I think a few pubs are in the Good Pub Guide but you will have to book. A day or two ahead should do the trick. Portscatho, not far from the site is worth a look. The only SPAR I have ever been in that sells fresh juicy scallops. The only downside is that because you are on a peninsula, it is a fair old trek to a supermarket of any size. One major attraction in the region that really disappointed me was the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek. I knew we wouldn't see them tap dancing or anything but I felt there was not a lot there for the substantial amount of money paid on entrance. Still, the money goes to agood cause. Oh yes, don't try leaving about 11.00 on a Saturday morning like we did one year. The biggest motoring nightmare of my life. Anyway, we're at the site in August too, before going to Godrevy Park which we have never been to. Best Wishes, George T.
