Michael Jackson has passed away

I've always had an eclectic tastes in music. Jackson Five and MJ found their way in to my collection over the years.

I was driving last night with MP3 player on random play and it played "Thriller" shortly after that I heard the Michael had died.

What a short life for a troubled genius!

Very sad and sad that his youth was taken by an ambitious parent.

RIP

Totally inappropriate post removed.

It is a sad day when folk reduce posts to areas where they have absolutely no knowledge of what may or may not have happened during Michaels life and resort to slur postings on his death.

I suppose one can only hope th esame thing happens to such contributers

Taking the P--- less than 24 hours after somebody has died.

NO!

Show some respect.

"For non-caravan issues: jokes, trivia, gossip", bad taste and sick aren't in there.

I am afraid you got it wrong, Brian, I would not wish a heart attack on anyone.

The comment was aimed at people posting inappropriate messages about someone they did not know, have no idea about their private lives but seem to find it funny to post slur comments about them after they have died,,,,,,,,,,very sick.

I think what he got up to in his private life is known to all but sadly money allows you to change reality whatever the evidence.

Please feel free to mourn the man who was REALLY sick

Opinions about Michael Jackson are always going to remain divided.

I removed a post late last night which although it may have reflected the opinions of many was inappropriate under the circumstances on this particular forum.

During Christian burial services the preacher always says something along the lines of ' The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away' and this is never more true than when rock or pop stars die early.

These stars are blessed with a vast amount of talent but genius is often flawed and many die young from the effects of alcohol, drugs or pure bad luck or bad judgement.

In the case of Michael Jackson it would appear that his childhood was stolen by his father (allegedly) and he spent a tortured life surrounded by rumour and accusation.

Nothing was ever proven conclusively so we are left with newspaper headlines which of course never lie ( they'll be trying to make us believe that British members of parliament are lying thieving scoundrels next!!)

I was never a fan of Michael or indeed any of the Jacksons but I will acknowledge that Michael had a rare talent.

Perhaps it would reflect better on us all if those who wish to pay tribute to Michael Jackson are allowed to post their thoughts on this thread and the rest of us simply leave it alone.

RIP Michael Jackson.

I think there are two sides to this topic. From the media potrailal of Michael Jackson his life style left a lot to be desired. As an artist, singer, performer, etc. his work was brilliant - I cannot think of any piece of poor music that he ever performed even from his early days in the Jackson Five.

He is now at peace with himself and not suffering any further, however he has a young family who now must be shown the respect they deserve for the loss of a parent.

Some vociferous comments on here. All very emotive and too sensitive, methinks.

Michael Jackson appeared to be a genius. Some of the music he delivered in his early solo days has even now not been surpassed. We could go on for hours about it. I'm not a big fan personally but I do know this was pure quality. That is MJ the singer.

MJ the man is a different subject and shouldn't really be discussed in a derogatory way at this time on a caravan chat forum. We've all seen his unnatural behaviour over the years;changing his face shape, lightening his skin, adopting children who he claims are his own but had blond hair, etc, etc. I won't mention idle gossip or anything that has not been proved. Sadly, MJ was ill.

But the thing that really makes this death poignant for me is the sense of waste. I always hoped this man would get himself back to reality, become a 'normal' person and entertain us again. Sadly, that is no longer possible.

I'm quite sure the jokes will start in a few hours too. Thats how some people deal with it. Again, don't criticise them as its just their way, although I fully respect the mods decision to (rightly IMO) not allow anything like that on here.

I only heard the news and called my daughter as she had tickets for us at the O2 shows.

45 year career in a 50 year life, how can any of know what his lost childhood may have been responsible for. With so much money and with so many ready to grab a slice of him and the money. Can we truly judge or know what is the truth.

No doubt more will jump on the money making now he's gone the same as with Elvis, Lennon and others.

A sad day for his family and fans.

Sad also that Fara Fawcett's death after a long battle against cancer is somewhat over shadowed by Michael Jackson's passing.

Sad indeed, but also it saddens me that of all the things that are going on in the world, one well past his best pop star's death gets all the attention!

I've edited this post in order to remove a joke that is inappropriate within this topic under the circumstances.

Thank you Mods for removing Brian's post which was most offensive and certainly no 'joke'. We all have a certain impression of Michael created only by the media and unless we 'know' for certain about his passt we should reserve judgment. Musically he was brilliant and more importantly, young children have now lost their father.

I have just listened to the BBC News and now the Scottish News MJ has dominated both. Have we become so celebrity minded that a relatively small event like some one dying is worth 15 minutes of the Main News of the day ??

At the end of the day Michael Sang Songs, and Danced, hardly a major contributor to the World we live in. He has passed away leaving millions of US $ of debt which will have to be paid from his childrens legacy. Sorry I can't get emotional over this event, jokes are a part of our culture. Please don't delete them it will surpress a quite significant part of our culture. A joke does not mean you do not respect the dead. I remember when my father had died and he was lying in his coffin in our living room. My wife got up to make a cup of tea and on her return someone had sat in her seat " would you jump in my coffin as quick " she asked. Well the room went silent, but I am sure I heard my dad laugh !!!!

I fully accept that jokes are part of our culture and that not everybody is a fan of Michael Jackson.

As moderators we're between a rock and a hard place because this topic was started by forum members who wish to pay tribute to Michael Jackson and to mark his passing.

I would ask all forum members to respect those who opened this topic and to show kindness and compassion if posting within it. We do ourselves no favours as a forum or as caravanners by adding jokes or unkind words to a topic which was started to mourn a death.

I'm certain that there will be many jokes about Michael Jackson but as the old saying goes, there's a time and a place so perhaps those who wish to post jokes or cruel words could do so elsewhere and leave this topic for the purpose for which it was opened.

Thanks.

I have read the posts here. I have taken on board the mods response. There are very few records of the jackson 5 and mj that I like but I am not a follower.

I don't know MJ personally so will not mourn (so to speak) I don't take on board what the media push out at us. But, he decided to make a career in the pop world, he didn't refuse the millions, he didn't refuse the fame and importance of himself.

Forgot to say. What is sad is what he did to himself over the years with his appearance. If you what footage and look at his face, he had a radiance of happiness about, which seemed to dissappear the more ha changed his looks.

I'm not a big MJ fan any more than I was a big Beatles fan but both laid down great memorable tracks.

Being trained from the age of 4 or 5 as a performer under his fathers thumb, could he possibly make his own choices ike others.

He only new showbiz and celebrity from his early formative years, how can we relate to that or judge fairly.

Questions are already being asked about who was controlling him for his earnings.

William's comment on all the sadness in the world and the ammount of attention given to the death of a pop star misses a few points. How many millions of sad and happy people did he give enjoyment to? How many have been inspired by MJ? His music helped unite black and white music followers in the USA and helped break down social barriers. MJ and his music will have has a part in getting Obama in.

As for the negative press, to many unanswered questions about who was just after money and who used his naivety for their own ends and pockets.

UK's GG is a non person, celebrity friends abandoned him. MJ retained many of his friends, and many are parents. Do we believe that celebrity parents would just ignore wrong doing.

He brought joy to millions and inspired millions, let people celebrate the good in his life.

It now looks more and more like he was killed by doctor administered drugs. A very sad epitaph!

I agree with celebs. The only celeb/star I know of who was openly his friend for years was Elizabeth Taylor.

He seems to have a lot now!!!!

Sorry to say I was never a Jackson 5 fan or a fan of MJ but was liked by many.

What annoys me is that we get a death of a british entertainer and it seems to slip by without anybody noticing, and no fuss being made .

I thought it was great on Saturday morning to hear Brian Matthew pay tribute to Duke Dmond from the Barron Knights who have entertained for years but that will probably be the last we here of that .

MJ rest in Peace

Sir Roger
