Micro Switch Wiring

I am fitting a new set of taps (Whale Elegance Mixer Tap) in the van (1990 Elddis Cyclone GTX.) But not sure how to wire up the micro switches. It has a little diagram but I don't understand it. I have two wires in the van 1 brown and 1 green and two terminals on the micro switch. Is it as simple as one to each terminal?

Thanks in advance.

Ian,

Basically yes - the micro-switch is just a very small version of a household light switch.

Orientation of the wires - which colour goes to which terminal - should not matter - unless there is a specific mention in the instructions that the +ve supply goes to a particular terminal. In which case, follow those instructions - and you will need a voltmeter to determine which wire has the 12V on it (probably the brown).

Take a note of the micro-switch "product code" - if you can see one - micro-switches have a life-expectancy of 100,000 operations (which should be more than the life of the caravan) but using them to switch an inductive load (pump) shortens this considerably. Then you can buy a replacement switch without buying a whole new tap.

If you are replacing existing taps then the micro switch will be completing the circuit between the 2 existing wires at the tap so it doesn't matter which terminal you attach to.

I always have a relay next to the pump so that the micro switch is just switching the relay contacts.

This enable thicker wire to be used to the pump and so reduces voltage drop for better performance and alos extends micro switch life and reliability

If the micro switch is fitted to the underside of the tap lever (usual), be sure to leave sufficient cable to allow the lever to be turned between hot and cold positions. I do this by leaving one coil before it goes down the hole in the tap body.
