Hi...looking for a low wattage microwave to use in the caravan, been looking at ones that have been specially made for caravan use, but they seem quite expensive...wondered if a normal 550w one would be ok...

Thanks in advance for any comments..

Dave.

Hi Dave, 3 years ago when we had a caravan without a microwave we bought a cheap, low wattage Cookworks from Argos and this worked perfectly in the van without any problems. Hope this helps.

well, it certainly wasn't on at the Kilmarnock store. they had one of their own brand for a similar price but i wasn't so sure about the wattage, also the reliability. the one in morrisons was posted here because other members have one, always the best advertising to me, word of mouth.

crikey spriket, ye have a link to everything. had a look at it buddy, but its a 700w type, the one at morrissons was a 500w, is the 500w not more suitable due to the leccy we draw ?.

cheers.

This will pull about 4.3amp so if you were going to use it, you dont put the kettle on at the same time...(

or the electric heating ...(

It all depends on what the site provider is giving via the EHU if your on 16amp your laughing even 10amp )

Have you got a electric kettle ..? or toaster ..? just have a look at what the wattage is on them ..)

We did the same as Sproket without any problems until we bought a caravan with one fitted.

Just don't have all the high power stuff on at the same time. Don't forget to explain it to your wee lassie and then if the trip goes you can blame her :O)

Hi

Can anyone tell me the model number for the microwave at ASDA please.

As I posted previously our Daewoo 700w, which came built into our Bailey Senator (06) died in October. The model we had in the'van is now discontinued and so I am looking for a similar size to fit in the existing aporture.

I'm particularly interested in the fact that the ASDA option is silver, like our old one, as that would look better than the Morrision's white option.

Regarding microwaves in 'vans in general it seems that there is a question mark as to how well they stand up to being bounced around whilst travelling and whether the built-in ones have sufficient ventilation. Certainly our old one had had VERY LITTLE use and, whilst still working, did cut out on several occasions presumably because it had overheated!

Another important point is that, so I understand, microwaves can draw a LOT MORE power than their stated electrical rating. We found it best to turn off ALL other electrics when using our, original microwave (rated 700w) even on sites with high ampage EHUs.

Regards

Tim
