Mikomi 15LCD250 15in LCD TV

Upon recommendation in this venerable forum (!) I purchased this Mikomi 15" TV from Argos a few months ago. It's really GOOD and I would highly recomnmend it for caravan use. However, whilst it runs off 12v, it only comes with a 230 --> 12v adapter; which is fine when hooked up to AC, but not so great on some CLs.

So, have any of you managed to find a 12v plug which fits this TV to enable you to plug directly into the 12v electrics of the caravan?

I use a 15" Philips lcd for my caravan and have been pluging it into the caravans 12v socket. One small problem is that the 12v supply from the 'van is not a constant 12v and therefore can be slightly more than 12v, sometimes as much as 13 or 14v. The mains lead/adaptor is regulated to 12v. Therefore this resulted in knackering my tv and is now in for repair. One solution would be to fit a voltage regulator into the lead from the vans 12v socket.
 
There is a world of difference between 12V used by electronic equipment, usually regulated to an exact level, and 12V lead acid batteries which provide power anywhere between 10-15V.

My limited knowledge of electronics recalls that a 12V regulator would have to convert the battery voltage (10-15V) up to, say, 18V and then regulate it down to an exact 12V. This would have about the same efficiency as a 230V inverter, which would be cheaper and useful for other low power appliances.
 
Very interesting; well, since I already own a decent inverter, it seesm like I'd best stick wit running the TV from 230V and use it's supplied power lead.

I bought one of these Mikomi 15 inch LCD tv's just over a year ago from argos, I got it because mainly of the good price. When i unwrapped it i found it had an adapter to reduce the voltage to 12 volts, so i cut of the lead from the adaptor to the tv and wired on a 12 volt plug as used in my caravan, we always use a hook up and have the charger / 12 volt supply switched on in the caravan, the tv has worked without fault for a year. After I first did it I read some comments somewhere that lcd tv should not be run from 12 volt batteries, however I decided that as i had already cut the lead, and that after all the tv did not cost a fortune that i would leave it and see how it lasted, so far so good.......

I have used my Bush one(same tv different name) on only 12v for the last 3yrs,no problems at all,made a cable up with connector and a 12v end.
 
OK Mikey; that's interesting. From where would I source an extra 12v plug to fit the TV; it doesn't look standrad to me; but then it may be ?!

Hi John

I was lucky enough to have a cable from some old modem psu's which had the dc power plug on already.All i did was put a cigarette lighter plug on the end and hey presto.My van has the cigarette 12v sockets,if you van doesnt then its the 2 blade type i would think.
