Mondeo late 2010, 2.0 tdci, 163 bhp, Titanium Estate

Hi All, do you own the model above or a mondeo that you tow with?.
what van does the mondeo tow?.
whats the kerb weight of the caravan you tow?.
what does it tow like etc etc.

I have a late 2010 Mondeo Zetec 2.0l auto diesel and tow a Lunar Clubman MTPLM 1300kgs with no problem. Great towing car. Only downside is the auto box. Manual is the way to go and the titanium has cruise control and load of other gadgets on it. in winter the front windscreen defrost in less than a minute! I would recommend the manual without hesistation.

We have a 2006 Mondeo Zetec Estate, tdci - which is a fantastic tow car. It pulls our Swift with an MTPLM around 1350 (but now fitted with a motor mover, so a bit heavier) without any problems whatsoever. We've towed down through France on the A75, which goes up to 1121 metres at one point (at 3678 feet, higher than the top of Mount Snowdon) up some very long winding hills, and it just keeps going.
Best of all, the fuel consumption is good, both towing and solo.
We've had five company Mondeos, and when OH was made redundant we bought out own. All have been good towcars, perhaps the best was the previous company car, which was a higher spec, though older than our current one, and with six gears (we now have only five).

We have a 2005 Mondeo 2.2 TDCi Estate Titanium (155BHP) towing a Swift Challenger 480 (1407 kg MPTLM) and we have found it an excellent towcar. It now has 70k on the clock and at least 30k of that is towing - in the UK and France. It has pleanty of power and torque and is very stable at motorway speeds. We can get high 40's mpg solo. Towing mpg is very dependent on relative wind direction and speed of travel, but is generally 26-30 mpg. Some comments have been made in previous strings about traction problems on muddy fields, but I have found it quite OK - feet off everything and just let it wind itself out.
I will probably change it later rthis year and will be looking for another Mondeo - the 160BHP diesel looks fine, but as others have said - avoid the automatic and go for the 6 speed manual.

Hi I have a 2004 mondeo 2 liter tdci 130 bhp and tow a compass Rallye MTPLM 1400 and have had no problems towed many miles in both the UK and France without any problems plent of power from the engine and as said on previous posts decent mpg roughly 33 when towing The only negative thing I could possibly say was that on our last outing we got stuck on a muddy field and a tractor had to tow the van off the grass but it had been raining heavily and the grass was particularly muddy so I don't think it was too much of a problem but on the whole an excellent tow car that I would definetly recommend

Val how does a motor mover make your van heavier, surely MTPLM is the max weight allowed for the van and the mover weight goes against a reduced payload?

Hi, yes, you're right of course, but we never got right up to the Max MTPLM, so the motor mover effectively added another 30 kgs to our 'normal' top weight. We're still just under the maximum, but by much less than we were before!

We have 130ps 6 speed hatch towing MPTLM of 1305kg and our mpg is about 49 solo and 33 ish towing.I would love the 160 ps version

Don't be fooled by the 163 bhp figure. The engine has been made more efficient for reduced emissions/company car tax/marketing purposes. Road tax is also consequently reduced from £155 to £110. Otherwise the 140 bhp version is just as good for towing or solo, especially for private buyers and for buying second hand/nearly new.
