As you can't load the back end of the car any more when towing than without the caravan behind it's only a question of whether you think you need an uprated suspension anyway, even when solo but fully laden.

Hi,

If you google " mad suspension " it will take you to their website . i have just bought a pair of progressive springs for the rear of my laguna. What they do is when the car is normal load there is no diference , but when you put weight on the rear (eg caravan) they stiffen accordingly and stop the sagging.

Regards Harry

As you are allowed to carry 3 passengers in the back ,that should be the amount of weight you can carry with your seats down, without uprating your suspension ,plus 75 Kg nose weight

According to the figures that I have, the MTPLM of the Amara 580/4 is 1580kg. The maximum permissible gross train weight of a Mondeo estate TDCi is 3750kg, so therefore the car may weigh no more than 1670kg if the caravan is fully laden. As the kerbweight (including driver) of the car is around 1580kg, that leaves you with just 90kg extra that you can put into the car - that's not even two average size adults. And there is no way you can improve the situation by fitting spring assistors.

Lutz, I picked up on this one as I am thinking of buying a Mondeo estate, are you sure your figures are right or am I missing something?

If the MTLM of the caravan is 1580kg and the kerbweight of the Mondeo is 1580kg and the max GTW is 3750kg, surely that leaves a margin of 590kg, I stand corrected if I'm wrong
