Hi, Does anyone have this model. I'm about to buy a 2009. All the reviews I've read are good. Just wanted to know what sort of towbar you'd had fitted and what it was like to tow.

You need to be cautious. Some of the current Ford 'Sport' models are not compatible with towbars due to the modified body panels. I don't know if this is the case with the 2009 models but it will be appropriate to do some research before you make a committment.

Thanks Jeff. I have phoned a local towbar installer and he did have a make that was compatible. He would have sent me a picture of it fitted from the manufacturer website but didn't know how to do it. Might get back to him and tell him how to do it. Sounded like there was a smallish hole drilled through the skirt under the bumper, for a detachable towbar. Be best to see it though.

Grinder if the car is local to you ask to see the V5. It will tell you clearly on there if it has a towing limit. Towing limit = legal to tow with as it has been homologated. Then go about the towbar.

The 'technical' dimensions give a towing limit of 1800 kg for a Mondeo Titanium X Sport, 2009 - see here:
http://m.usedcarexpert.co.uk/cars/ford/mondeo/specs-stats/dimensions/
so you should be OK towing - although elsewhere it does mention underpowered petrol engines as a negative feature!
We had a petrol Mondeo for a short time (on loan from Ford), after owning five or six diesel Mondeo's and the petrol engine didn't perform half as well as the diesels, on long hills, or on a sloping start.

You cannot rely on third party web sites such as the one Val suggests. The only sure way is to ask Ford to verify the towing limits agains the vehicles VIN number.

Thanks for all the comments. It would be the 2.2 or 2.0 diesel model that I would go for and I'll be sure to check the towing limt with the dealer before I take the plunge.

hi i have been looking at the simular spec mondeo's and on the ford website it shows a max towing limit which is 2000kg, BUT when you look at the options for the car the detatchable tow bar which would set you back £600 is not available??? why would they show towing limits but can supply a tow bar. The Mondeo Titanium X has a Max towing limit of 2000KG but you can buy a tow bar for this car. strange! Its does say in small print any ford with the sports body kit a detachable tow bar unavailable, but surley thats not much of a problem for the garage.

just a quick update on the tow bar fitting for the mondeo 2.2 titanium x sport!, you can get a tow bar fitted. I spoke to a tow bar fitter and they explained would have to cut the plastics on the bottom of the bumper, you can get a swan neck detachable one as well. They explained the cars which you cant put a tow bar on is the econetic ones as they have certain electrics which wont allow to tow.
The tow bars fitted would be around £360 with thirteen pin electrics and a detatchable tow bar. I dont think thats too bad a price, better than £600!!
