Hi again, well the boss has spoken and told me I cant have the Jag (see previous posting)

So it looks like a 2004 Mondeo 2 litre estate to tow my Bailey Pageant Burgundy series 5.

I am still damned confused, van says MPLtm ( or something similar, didnt have me glasses) is 1400Kg and the brochure for the Mondeo states Kerbweight 1457KG and gross train of 3495 Kgs and technically permissable maximum laden weight ( whatever the hell that is !!) of 2070Kgs.

So basically will it tow? it seems a high figure @ 2070 or am I just getting it all wrong again?

Any help greatfully received (and Thanks to all who replied to other posting)

Cheers

Based on the figures that you quote, if the Gross Train Weight of the Mondeo is 3495kg and its Technically Permissible Laden Weight (MTPLM) 2070kg, then it may tow a caravan with a maximum total axle load of 3495 - 2070 = 1425kg. Add to that the noseweight of 75kg, gives you a maximum total weight of the caravan of 1500kg which is more than that of your Bailey, so you're OK based on manufacturer's specified limits.

However, you should realise that your weight ratio will be 1400 divided by the kerbweight of the car (1457kg) or 96% which is rather higher than ideal so you will need to exercise a bit of extra care when towing.

As every car that comes off the line at the factory has a different kerbweight, all published figures in handbooks, etc. can only serve as a guideline. There may be variances of over 100kg between cars of nominally the same specification so an accurate figure can only be obtained by weighing the actual car.
