Just reading various reviews from Union Lido in Italy. Expect many mosquitos they say.

This got me to thinking, does anybody make mosquito nets suitable for a caravan? Where would one fix it to?

Many thanks

Ian,

From another post you made I gather you are new to caravanning. Most, if not all, newer vans as well as having window blinds also have flyscreens either incorporated into the blinds or on a separate roller system between the blind and window. A lot of vans also have a sliding flyscreen on the doorway.

I don't know how easy it would be, or how much it would cost, to retro fit these to a van not already equipped with them. They are handy though, even in this country, you can open your window and keep out the flies and wasps.

Thanks Rob

Yes, I am new to this game. I went to spain last year and even with the flyscreens down, some mozzys are getting in. They seemed to gather in the awning then find their way into the van. I just wondered if the mozzy nets were something others used. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I've heard a lot about lots of mozzys in the Union Lido campsite area.

Thanks for your post anyway.

Looking at their website it appears the site is close to shallow lagoons where given heat, I am sure the insect population thrives. The Carnmargue in France is another area where the besties can be a real 'pain'.

If these areas are your choice, then be prepared. As mentioned most vans have fly screens on the windows, and usually a screen across the door. If not, fit one. Even a cheapie strip type screen from a supermarket will help. The other thing to consider is a good insect zapper that plugs into the electric. Leave it on all night and it usually gets 99% of the b.....s.

If all else fails then you are back to basics. Putting on the light and looking for the beast.

Fortunately, they are usually not malaria carrying types, but the bites and especially the buzzing noise around your face, can drive you mad.

Hi SL

I have new Pageant Provence so I'm 'all flyscreened up' as they say. But with doors and windows open at various times they still get in. Children aren't as vigilant as me at keeping things shut.

Its that buzzing around the ears that I can't stand. I do sometimes get big swellings when I've been bitten.

Anyway, just been to TK Max for some bits and bobs and came across some mosquito nets for a tenner with 'hanging kits'

Gonna sleep in one tonight. Might keep er indoors off me :)

This website could help it has mosi nets lotions etc www.roamingfox.co.uk/ . I stay nr pisa every year, the mosi's can be quite bad .Mosquitos smell their pray and the mosi repelants mask the smell of our blood. Get a good quality hanging net for the size of you beds ideally with a impregnated anti mosi treatment with DEET.Use a anti-mosquito spray/lotion with DEET(Max 50% content) put it on before bed they are usually effective, mosi coils can also help.Fortunatly they dont bother me or the kids to much, however my wife attracts them in their hordes.

Deet is great, but it doesn't half destroy plastics, such as watch straps and specs frames. On the other hand it is also very good at removing biro and felt tip stains.

The ones I got are impregnated with Permethrin. We will see if it works.

I have some little machines that I've bought in Greece years ago and they will do.
