Recently a post was on here with a link to a reminder system set up by the Government to remind people when their MOT is due, with a reminder sent a month before it expires.
I registered and had acknowledgement but my MOT expires on March 30th and I have not received a reminder.
Has anyone else had experience of the system and whether it works.

Just had one of our cars MoT and the reminder did work fine. But as the car requires service and tax at the same time it’s niot something I forget , as it also goes into my cloud calendar to remind me.

If you google mot check, you'll get on a gov. Website, put your reg in and it'll tell you when your mot and tax are due.You can check any car and it's got other useful info, like, you check all your last mots as to what it's failed or been advised on,also if you have any outstanding recall actions required. This service is particularly good to check out prospective new car purchase, hope this helps, cheers.

I got a reminder for Mrs Chrisbee's car 28 days before the MOT was due. I opted to also get one 2 weeks before the MOT expires but as I've now had the MOT done I doubt if I'll get that one. The system seems to work great to me. :)

I got the reminder for the tax a couple of weeks back but no MOT needed at the moment so cannot comment on that. I did take out an agreement with the dealer that covers my servicing at a good discount, so when the car is three, they will remind me as well.

I had registered two cars on the gov website and had the first and second reminders - booked for service and MOT on Monday and Tuesday with a little help from my flexible friend!

5oK !! It'll be a while before we get to that mileage ! Ours only 3 years old and only got 17k on the clock !!

Craig, we done a lot of Swiss and French trips in the first 2 years. The first weekend we had it we put 1000 miles on it so we could tow the van the following weekend. As per the handbook.

Mine went in last Wednesday, MOT & Service just under 50,000. Garage put a damper on the day saying cam belt is due October.

Guess you went to a main dealer for the MOT DaveA1, and they picked up on your service history.

Cam belts are not an MOT check, but I would replace it nonetheless, potentially very expensive if one fails, a service item that I would choose to adhere to; another cost of motoring

50K but how old is the car? Most cam belts don't need changing until north of 70K and in some/many cases even 100K. However there does seem to be some uncertainty across dealers. On our last car, a Passat estate, we were told it needed doing at 80K, then another garage said we should have had it done at 60K, then a main dealer said 70K and ultimately VW said 100K!

My 2.0 TDI Superb manual says it is 50k or five years whichever is sooner. My XC70 was 100k or ten years, and my sons Freelander 2 is 100k or ten years. Not sure that I would push one to that period or mileage as I am sure any goodwill payment if it broke would be zilch. Yet my son's LR is now ten years old and 65k miles and still on its original. Previous cars were all cam chain thank heavens. Our Nissan is 40k or 4 years and costs around £450 at a Nissan dealership.

Not part of the service, they were offering to replace it, minus water pump that's a no no. Wanted best part of £300 and that's without that's without the water pump
It has reached the belts time limit of 5 years, mileage 60,000 miles. Vauxhall have dropped the mileage and knocked one year off.

Often there’s little extra work involved in changing the pump. Plus you get a refreshed coolant. VAG normally recommend changing the pump as it can cause cam belt failure if it should go. Yet Nissan don’t seem fussed about pump changes on some of their engines.

Well the Sante Fe went through it service and its second MOT, passed and got home and the MOT reminder was on the email list so the system does work.
