Do you have a motor mover? Our DIY man Doug King reports hearing stories about movers damaging caravan tyres.

So far, they've been anecdotal with the information coming via third parties. The worry is that if they are correct, then the industry needs to do something about it. So Doug is asking for your help. He would like to compile a survey of movers but with particular reference to tyre damage. These will be collated and sent to the relevant people - which is why he needs your help.

If you have suffered damage to the tyres - or any other damage - as a result of having a mover fitted to your caravan could you please email or write and let us know?

Please give the following details: your name; the make and model of your caravan; the name of the mover; how long you've had it; what damage has been caused; what steps, if any, has the mover manufacturer has taken to rectify the situation. Photos would also be of great value.

Email: doug@practicalcaravan.com or write to:

Doug King, Practical Caravan, Haymarket Consumer Media, Teddington Studios, Broom Road, Teddington, Middx., TW11 9BE.

We will report the findings back both online and in the magazine.

Thanks in anticipation for your help

Hello Nigel.
I emailed Doug King a while ago about this subject and can say that I have a Powrtouch which has been fitted to my last two vans and has caused absolutely no damage whatsoever in over 5 years of use.
Also I have fitted dozens of Powrtouch movers to vans and have never been called back to look at damage caused by the mover.

The only make which did cause a problem was a Reich which has ground a groove in a tyre by the extended front part of the mover.
However, this damage was after the mover had sustained impact damage on a kerb, which had moved it on the chassis rail.

Hi

As so you we do not have a van now but one time when we was clear the caravan.
It came to time to take the caravan back to storge. I used the mover to to get on to the car. Sharon tuke the mover off and I did the rest of the hiching up. When it came to pull of it felt like the hand brake was on.
I had a look but it was off so started off again but it still was not going well. I must have only got a 100 yards. With the stop and starting. I had a look at the wheels and one off the rollers had not come off the tyre. The only damge that was was to the mover roller.
It had take off all the grit. I had to buy to new rollers (£60).

Had the same problem with a Reich mover. First time a groove down the centre of the tyre after going down a pothole whilst leaving a campsite, which I didn't discover until I arrived home. The second time a puncture after driving to close to the kerb to let other cars pass.
