I think that in in the July issue of PC that the 3 main motor movers were compared. Unfortunately i didn't see it.

Can anyone furnish me with the results or give me their personal experiences with what they consider the best mover.

Your coments are appreciated.

We have just changed our ageing Truma mover for a Rhyno http://www.rhyno.moonfruit.com/ It's lighter, cheaper comes with a 5 year guarantee and when we had a problem last year with our Truma unit the guys from Rhyno visited us on site and didn't charge for fixing it. NOR did they try and push their own product at the time. With service like that why go anywhere else... oh yeah and they're 100% British. i realise that may not appeal to everyone but it has its advantages as well....

I'm quite happy with my Motor Mover ET (extra torque) jockey wheel fitting type, which copes well with moving our twin axle van on the flat and up a 1 in 8 by 1.2 mtr pavement gradient.

I chose this type over a fixed version as I move my 750Kg goods trailer with it too and my in-laws caravan has to use it. You see, I have a big problem with my shoulders and arms due to excess calcium (bone growth) which has so far resulted in two major operations which has left me unable to get full arm movement.

The other day when my mover decided to sheer a bronze idler gear, motor mover were excellent in posting the part the same day, thus allowing me to get her back on the drive within three days from failure.

It's all down to personal choice on this one. You could purchase a back copy of the mag from PC for a few hard earned and see the range for yourself.

Here goes, Brian!!!

POWRTOUCH

Web: www.powrwheel.com

Verdict:

A good range of value products, all of which are, unfortunately, a little on the heavy side.

MOTOR MOVER PLUS

Verdict:

The slightly confusing remote control is more than compensated for by excellent ground clearance, detachable pars, plus the bonus of free fitting at the companies Derbyshire-based factory (at home:

Brian,

Whichever mover you do get check that your wheel clamp will still fit. We got our newly mover-fitted 'van home only to discover the Keep-it clamp could not pass between mover roller and tyre. Wish we had found that out while still at the fitters showroom; would have saved the frantic dash back to purchase a Bulldog Q.

P.S. I know you are not supposed to advertise here but if anyone in the Teesside area wants a Keep-it . . . . . . . . .

As the thread has been removed it would be foolish in the extreme for me to reopen the discussion in an open forum.

The previous nights thread was removed because its information could not be proved either true or false. The poster did not state who they worked for at any time and as such the previous comments have been removed.

Earlier this week a post was placed on this site stating that a caravan mover had been tested as faulty and had caused a fire. This is a serious matter and as such it has been investigated with the manufacturer of the mover and the manufacturer of the electronic box used in the mover.

It was found that there was an incident with a mover in 2003 and that the unit went under investigation to identify the cause of the failure. The electronic box still worked and its thermal cut outs still functioned without problems. The final report on the investigation was that the fault was loose terminations on the power conductors and arcing caused the heat problem.

The conclusion was bad fitting.

This shows the importance of using an approved installer to fit this kind of equipment. If you do fit one yourself, get someone else to check the installation (maybe at the caravan's next service if it is soon)

It was also discovered that these devices are protected by thermal cutouts that disconnect the power if the unit overheats. This coupled with the fact that over 12,000 of these products in use today, we feel that any real problem would have become noticed long before now. A single failure 3 years ago does not (in our opinion) warrent any real alarm about the use of these products.
