My son just had an accident whilst chopping logs for next winter. He always keeps his axes very sharp. The long shaft axe glanced off of the log and block straight through his safety boot upper ankle section too. Fortunately no serious damage. Next set of safety boots will have kevlar or stainless mesh up the ankle and calve.
Could have been worse at least the leather on his safety boots took some of the force out. Good luck though with the axe throwing. Nice day for the show.
