Motorway Parking for Caravans

BJ, I've just returned from Scotland. At the Annandale Water services was a big notice warning caravaneers they were not to switch gas on, (perhaps understandable), and not to put legs down (not so understandabel). There was of course the normal 2 hour warning etc.

so there is a campaign to improve parking on motorway services for caravaners, well good luck to you.as a hgv driver for over 21yrs i dont park on motorway services unless i really have to because i can be charged from

We all have to remember that Motorway Services are Commercial Ventures and not a service to the public, unless of course you are paying for them.

I think a better way of improvimg facilities may be for the major clubs, CC and CCC, to come together and approach say Rank or Moto explain what caravanners need and then to offer publicity via the respective magazines to the services that provide facilities. This would then show which services are caravan friendly for both temp parking and fuel.

Hi,

the Highways Agency provided lots of free parking last Friday night on the M5 southbound between Junctions 4a and 9!.

I just hope that the car park 'attendants' they have at Tebay Services get switched on for caravan outfits coming into the car park.

They have drive in/drive out bays especially for caravans. When we pulled in on our journey to Scotland last summer, many cars were parking in the long bays for caravans, when there was plenty of single slots for cars and it was utter chaos. Caravans were arriving, some of them long T/A outfits, to find the bays for caravans full of cars. The car park 'attendants' were completely oblivious to the chaos that ensued. Some outfits were unable to park in the designated area for caravans and just drove straight out again. One thing they should do is paint CARAVANS on the ground in front of these bays or at the very least ask the 'attendants' to get switched on to what is happening. We had Tebay Services marked down as a good place to stop on our journey, following rave reviews we had read of it - absolutely never again!!

meals on wheels,

I remember reading somewhere a long time ago ......if the service area was too busy that Tebay Caravan Park was willing to allow you to pull into the park itself and rest up for an hour or so if the service area was too busy. This information came from the warden herself......now I don't know whether that warden is still there, but it might be worth a phone call to find out if this is still the case. The trouble at Tebay is that all vehicles are in together in a relatively confined area.

I was NOT advocating caravanners to stay overnight. On motorway service stations this would probably be unpleasant.

I also have sympathy for HGV drivers who must have set breaks.

The more pressure that can be applied from all types of motorway users the better.
i take your point about putting pressure on the motorway services monopoly.....i think that they should all be renamed the dick turpin services

again...........sorry for the rant
