Going on hols. in a few days time. Due to health reasons, we need to stop as often as possible. Hopefully will be stopping at the following service areas (going West along M62/M61/ north M6):

Ferrybridge

Hartshead Moor

Birch

Bolton West

Lancaster (Forton)

Does anyone know what the caravan parking is like at these services (designated caravan parking / in with lorries / have to reverse into bays etc!)?

Many thanks

Pam

Hi Pam

Not been to such services for a long time

Depending on time of day ie: very early, then it should be no trouble parking in the coach part of the services, only late on in the day will it be busy, unless Sat-night into Sun there will be less lorries, even so you will be able to just drive in & wont require reversing.

If it's because you need to be near the service entrance then lorry parking is always further. so just go in car park & take up 2 spaces, lengthways again depending on time of day.

that's a rather irresponsible suggestion :(

No wonder some caravanners get a lousy reputation.

Most Motorway Services now have designated spaces for caravans and yes from time to time we can't use them [ no room] because of lorries parked in them and Caravans are parked in Lorry bays.

There are attendants now in some areas and coach spaces can be blocked off by cones .

Pam I sympathise with your predicament -

Ferrybridge should not be a problem - though Van spaces are well away from the actual buildings [ they are in most places ]

Foton - you should be OK - the others I can't help with I'm afraid

I would avoid Forton, the last time I stopped there there were no designated caravan parking spaces and all the HGV spaces were taken and I had to park by a grass verge which stunk of p**s

Pam,

This is what I have written down from past journeys.

FORTON Northbound: SEPARATE CARAVAN PARKING shared with Travel Lodge Car Park.Entrance is fairly tight.

Signage is confusing suggesting it is for Lodge Customers only.It is on the LEFT hand side of the road opposite Lorry park.

Hope this helps you.

Pam,

I forgot to say that the parking bays are drive through,so no reversing manoeuvres are needed.

It might be an irresponsible suggestion

But it was sugested for how bad they need to be to the entrance

without going into medical detail, & I'm quite sure the attendant if one wouldn't mind if inquired.

I am also aware their is designated caravan parking, but like you say sometimes used by lorries & yes even cars so what about their reputations.

Pam :

If you send an email to john.stephen@10glebelands.com, I will happily send you a document which contains details of teh service stations up and down the country relating to ease of parking for Caravans etc. We update this document all the time and I'm happy to share it with anyone who'd care to ask!

John
