Entering my drive with the caravan attached, l unhitched and moved the caravan forward towards my house with the mover. To position the caravan I place a wheelie bin between the corner of the house and the nearside front of the caravan as a stopping piont to allow access. When I took my finger off the forward button the caravan continued to move forward crushing the bin. I turned off the remote handset and disconnected the power to the electronic box in the caravan. Thinking it might reboot itself, I turned it back on and it immediately moved forward crushing the bin further.
To resolve the situation I had to manually wind the mover's drive wheels off the tyres and pull the 'van away from the house.

What make is the mover? Ideally they should fail in the off position. My controller will stop if it loses connection to the remote. So perhaps it might have been your remote that failed. But as you said you turned that off, it would appear to be a controller failure.

Was the caravan OK after attacking the bin?

It is an Alko TE. (Electric drive roller engagement). It's eleven years old. The grab handle took the brunt of the force but the caravan (Lunar Alaria) now has a large but shallow hollow area on the gas locker door. It would have been a lot worse if it had hit the brick of the house. I took the electronic box and remote to A & R Electronic Developments near Cannock (180 mile trip). Thanks to Yan, repaired while I waited. Yes it was a fauly remote but an issue with the electronic box also rectified. All now working perfectly but I'm not quite as relaxed when using it.

As an aside our Sky remote buttons go awry now and then. Seems gunge gets into the buttons. Easy to strip down . Wash in purified deionised water. Finish off with Electrical Contact spray and all working again

Yes Dustydog,. But after the repair and replacement handset I looked at the internals of the dodgy remote. It's very well protectected from the elements, unlike tv remote controls which go into meltdown with a splash of bottled beer. Everthing clean as a whistle. I think it was more to do with the electronics on the circuit board within. . The Alko remotes of that era take a bit of getting into. . No screws, just oneway clips and glue.
