Hello fello caravaners, Got loads of questions and issues as we pick up our first caravan up on Wednesday 2nd April, my first consern is the clip on mirrors! I have been told that mirrors on 05 onward vauxhall vectra are hard to fit and you need the right one's!, is this true and if so what mirrors do i need for my vectra!

thanks Martin.

Don't know your exact car but the older Vectras had the same problem. We went to a caravan dealer who let us try several mirrors. We chose Milenco which have two screw devices on the top of the car mirror and then the extension mirror pokes through these two clips. Excellent. Bought in 2003 and still in use on third car. Be careful not to drop the little rubber feet. They are available as a spare.

Enjoy your caravanning.

Seen suction mirrors that stick to the glass at Harringtons! and vectra towing mirrors in towsure, decisions, decisions!

Join the club, we're just returning to caravanning after 10 years lay off and have realised just how much we had forgotten. It seemed so simple then! We have just bought the Milenco Aero mirrors for a Citroen Picasso C4 which has the deepest profile rear view mirrors I've ever seen, so anything with a "rubber band" fixing is out of the question. They fit well and I'm confident they will perform just as Milenco promise. Don't even think about the suction type - press hard on the mirror insert and it will probably break or damage the electric adjustment.

Good luck when you pick up the new van. Just make sure it's correctly hitched to the towball when you set off!

Thanks Peter,

just had a mate round who works for a vauxhall dealer and he said the same, the glass would come away from the mechanism!

17.5 hours now to pick up, not counting or anything!!

I'm sure someone with more (recent) experience than me will reply soon, but I think the recommendation is for flat on the offside and convex on the nearside. The latter is supposed to give a better field of view. Personally, distorted images give me to eeby-geebies - even some internal car rear view mirrors do this and I don't like it. I've gone for flat mirrors on the basis of "what you see is what you get" but I'd be happy to hear from other drivers.

One other tip - after hooking up and assuming you get the little green indicator to show on the hitch (not sure how old your van/chassis is) - have one last check when everything including the electrics are hooked up. Drop the jockey wheel, clamp it, then wind it up between 25mm to 50mm. If it lifts the back end of the car without dropping the towball you should be correctly hooked up. Don't forget to wind up and clamp the jockey wheel after this test!

I bought ones specific for my new style Astra from Towsure, they fit the Vectra too.

Have now traded in the Astra (bloomin awful, though a good towcar in 150bhp CDTi format) for a Skoda Octavia vRS TDi so have them for sale if anyone wants them.
