Does anyone know the current state of this road? I know that long stretches are being converted to toll autoroute but not clear as to how far this work has got. I'm talking of the stretch down to St Vincent de Tyrosse from Bordeaux.
the Vicarious Books website suggests that some toll sections are now in operation, but ViaMichelin route does not show any toll sections or mention them in the route details.
This time last year it was a bit nerve wracking to tow for nearly 30miles on two narrow lanes between large concrete blocks with absolutely nowhere to sto or get out of the traffic in the event of puncture or other mishap

Hi Gaffer you are right about lengthy - but not very much the wiser - not your fault you've really done your best.
My decision time will be 26th december so we'll see if anyone else responds before this.

Merry Christmas !

I am using this route myself at the end of January so any update of what you find out would be great....if you go that way!

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Came down full length Sunday 29th. No roadworks or signs of any. 3 lanes each way all the way except the old two lane sections around St Vincent de Tyrosse and at the south end.
New toll gate just south of Junction 16 (D834 to Mont st Marsan) next one near St Vincent on two lane section. Class 1 posted as 3.65 euro - don't yet know about class 2 as using a SANEF tag this time.

Surfaces good but hold the suface water, difficult to see lane marking. Not a problem to us as no HGV traffic but could be later.

Not directly but you should be able to find out from the French autoroutes website. Unlike many older autoroutes where there is a RN or D running in parallel, there does not seem to be much alternative on this stretch without really taking to the lanes.
My SANEF tag card for December should be on-line soon so if this throws any light on the matter I'll post again.

This is the print out from my Sanef account showing claase 2 (02) and the euro charges. The first stage is from just south of Nantes vian Niort to Mirambeau noth of Bordeaux. The second is from Mirambeau to the top of the Bordeaux ring road, the remaineder are on N10 right down to and leaving France for Spain at Irun.
There is also a 'foreign currency exchange fee' added - about 3%
I would normally have gone south via La Rochelle rather than Niort which would have saved a lot of the first toll but the weather was bad and we haad to find a new campsite from Mirambeau, so stuck with the autoroute all the way down.

With the set-up, deposit and first month surcharge the total invoce was around £100; much of the extra is either refundable or a one-off non-recurring payment. Expensive but in our circumstancesof bad weather and an inexperienced co-driver considered worthwhile.
