I think it's already been mentioned - if not here then certainly on another forum - but fortunately it doesn't affect EU countries at the moment - just those outside the EU, so we're safe with our Nationwide cards for a bit longer. I wonder just how long, though, before they start charging?
My understanding is that it applies to all useage outside the UK, so Europe as well. However, I believe they are not charging as much as other card issuers, so still advantageous, but not so good as it was.
The other card to use abroad is the Post Office one. I don't know if they are going to start charging outside of the EU,so it could be a good thing to have this one as well.
