Hello Michael

The situation regarding the maintenance of manufactures warranties is a grey area.

The manufacture has no obligation to offer any warranty to the end user, it is in fact a gift, and to a large extent the manufacture can set criteria to limit the gift and is in addition to your statutory rights.

Incidentally you statutory rights are a contractual obligation between your self and the seller (as differentiated to the manufacturer of the item).

You must check with the manufacturer to see if a variation is acceptable. i.e. service work carried out by a non franchised workshop.

In a recent challenge, a similar requirement placed in car warranties was deemed to be unfair, and provide the service work was carried out in accordance with the manufacture s schedule and using genuine parts and to the same standard, then work could be carried out by any competent workshop. - not necessarily affiliated to the manufacture. However the same may not be true of caravan warranties.

Check with the manufacture.

Don't know if this is of any use to anyone. I got it sent to me today.

In order to improve the service we offer to our customers, Bailey has incentivised Retailers to accept warranty work irrespective of where the caravan was purchased (also known as transient warranty). Details of the Transient Warranty Retailer listings can be found by clicking onto

Subject: Canavan Servicing

Dear Sirs,

I own a Bailey Caravan that is due it first service in the coming months, however the two main Bailey Dealers & Service Centers locally to me are XXXXXXXXX and XXXXXXXX say that they will only service Bailey Caravans that has been sold by them.

Therefore this causes me a problem in terms of getting my Caravan serviced in order to maintain the warranty - do you know of any service centres where I could take my van to? and also are Bailey aware just have restrictive their "Approved Centers" are towards owners of Bailey Vans in terms of after sales/market care.

Secondly I am surprised that the cost of servicing up near Newcastle is approx

Cheers to you all especially William , I phoned Bailey today and they said that it was ok to have my caravan serviced by a NCC approved workshop and that it would'nt invalidate my warrenty.

I also found a mobile dealer who was a lot friendlier and cheaper than any quotes that i had been given by the big companies.

thanks again Mike
