Well we never do, do we.
However it's not as often that we read or hear something about a topic that goes totally against all we'd been taught years before.
I spent the first half of my working life in the Army, during which time I learnt and taught a lot about electricity,,mainly in the form of batteries.
I know they have evolved a lot and did so even when I was teaching, but I read recently something that seems to have changed completely.
We were taught,,and passed on to students that the "Modern" battery such as Ni Cad should be fully used before re-charging as they develop a "memory" and if only used to 30% charge then re-charged they will eventually only give 70% of they original capacity. (percentages variable)
Now I read that modern batteries such as those in mobile phones should never be allowed to "run down" but should be re-charged when about 30%. Presumably because of their content construction.

Learn something new every day.

My wheelchair goes on to charge every night regardless of how much it has been used during the day and seems quite happy with that at the moment. Some people advise we do as we do, some say charge when it's getting down and others say have it on to charge at all times when not using it. Well I use it all day so stick to the nightly regime. We don't plug in if I'm just going to be sat in one place for an hour. The one thing everyone we've spoken to do agree on is not to do a part charge but always leave until fully charged before disconnecting.

That applies only to NiCad batteries.

They are not NiCads. Every type of battery is different. After all I am sure you are aware that Lead-Acid batteries do not like being discharged at all! They have to be, to be useful of course, but for a long life they like to be recharged asap and trickle charged all the time as well.
