Hi. Puchased new Dec 2005. It is a 2006 model.

Faults have been. Water coming in around front window. new seals fitted but still coming in. Back in touch with dealer yesterday.

On board water tank pump faulty, replaced but still noisy, modification done by dealer.

Shower unit had to be resealed in one area because no sealant.

Trim cut short around the edge of seat, new trim on order.

Exterior locker door not shutting properly. new door on order.

Heater front keeps coming away from fire when in transit. new front on order.

Cutlery drawer fastener does not stop drawer opening when in transit.

Fresh water comes out of storage tank on thetford toilet, Bathroom floor wet on arrival at sites.

Radio faulty, replaced .

Not very impressive for a top of the range van. Should have stuck with my Coachman VIP. Far superior in the quality area.

I am sure I have forgotten some of the problems but this is most of them.

Have written to the dealers last night expressing my views.

Andrew you really have had bad luck with this caravan, you have my sympathy.

We have a new Bessacarr too and have'nt had any of the faults you have described apart from the cutlery drawer catch, which we have tighted with a screw driver a couple of times.

With as many problems as this, are you covered by the "sale of goods" act? Surely you would be entitled to a refund or replacement if the problems cannot be rectified.

Good Luck!!

Andrew.

Sorry to here of your problems, 3 years ago I traded in my old Bessacarr then 10 years old it was a gem and we were sorry to part with it. I asked a friend in Norwich who repairs and services caravans, but does not sell them, which new van I should go for, he advised we keep well clear of Bessacar for just the reasons you have found and recomended Coachman, we ended up with the VIP 2 berth , had some teething problems which were put right quickly and I am now a Coachman convert.

David from Suffolk.

PS before norfolk Mike takes issue I got it from a Norfolk dealer. who has given first class service. breaks my heart to as a resident in Suffolk to say this.

David I would have to agree with you there.

We had a 1997 Bessacarr, and in comparison was far superior in build quality to the one we have now. It really was a beautiful caravan, we changed that one a couple of years ago to a 2002 model, you could see the difference even then!!

When you take into account the amount of money these 'vans cost you would think they could maintain a decent product! :O(

We came back from Braemar last weekend through driving rain, and I checked the van for leaks around the windows and the roof lights etc, and it's all dry. How long did it take to notice the problems with leaking windows, from first purchase or after 6 months etc ??.. I don't think caravan windows are rocket science stuff, surprised that they can't be fixed first time around!!!!

I do know if ours starts to leak it will be parked outside the dealers and I would be inviting people in to look around, prior to them looking at new vans to purchase

It was a regonised problem with early 2006 models. Swift did a recall in Jan and the van was damp checked, but we had virtually no heavy rain all winter in Dorset and the problem did not come to light until May. The seals were then replaced but after heavy rain we still get water building up at the bottom of the window. The dealers are coming to the house tomorrow morning to have another look. Last night we had heavy rain and i had to go out twice to soak it up.

Ours is 1998 Bessacarr, which we have owned about 4 yrs. During last Easter break, we noticed water getting around the top n/s front corner.

I stripped everything out on our return, which included the front overhead lockers/shelving, ceiling panel, wiring, insulation and so on. As the source of damp can be very difficult to pin down, I was pleaseed to find two causes, but very annoyed at the reasons.

Certain parts of the glassfibre front panel were so thin, particularly around mouldings, that far more light was passing through than in the rest of the panel. I applied additional resin and mat to these sections.

Near the centre, however, was a small area that had clearly received an impact at one of the moulded sections. A feeble attempt had been made to smear some of the bonding glue (used in the fixing of the structural member above the windows) over the damage. So, someone in the factory knew of the damage but didn't bother to rectify it properly. There appears to have been a slight seepage from the point since new. I recently found the splintered off section of glassfibre mat at floor level, behind a panel, which confirmed to me this incident happened at manufacture

Secondly, both front upper running lights were inadquately sealed, one with virtually no sealant at all where the lighting wires passed through the shell.

I have managed to restore the integrity of the van in time. The emphasis with these vans has been on the the general ambience and internal appearance, with which we have been satisfied. Once you take anything apart however, the shoddy workmanship quickly becomes apparent. It is very unlikely we shall have another Bessacarr, unless I can see a dramatic improvement in the quality of assembly
