New caravan delivery inpsection

Can you request that the seller of a new caravan demonstrates to you that water system is totally satisfactory in so much as they have to connect a water barrel to the caravan, connect power etc in order to check whether water heats up, although it may take a few minutes and the same would apply to the actual heating in the caravan and the fridge prior to signing for the caravan.

I think that they should be doing this when you take first delivery of a caravan and also when you collect it after a service especially if you have had a problem with either water or electirical system. Do you think that we shoudl be insisting on other checks where they need to connect up power and water? What about tyre pressures etc? They charge you £400 for a PDI which is never done so I see no reason why you cannot insist on a full demonstration.

In my experience all dealers do this when you go to pick up your new, (or second hand) van.

If he doesn't I would go elsewhere.

Ian,

My dealer Golden Castle Caravans do this no matter what make of caravan you buy from them. They call it the handover process and it takes just over 1 hour. They connect up water, gas and electrics and show you how everthing works including the heating up of the water, fir and cooker.

The other side to this is that you can check that everything works and a thorough P.D.I. has been done. As Grahamw says, if the dealer you go to does not do this then go to another dealer who does.

The number of times on site over the past 30 years that I have experienced people with new caravans on their first outing with their new caravan and one or more things do not work.

When asked did your dealer go through a handover procedure, they reply oh yes he showed us how to hitch the caravan to the car.

Insist on the dealer showig you how everything works.
