Well this is the first caravan we have purchased and after doing our home work we settled for a New Compass Corona 556. The fixed bunks is ideal for out two children whilst my wife and I could enjoy the living area when they are tucked up asleep. We just took delivery on Thursday 19th July and took it away the following morning for four nights to get used to it and how everything works. Now where we were wasn't too bad with the rain however one night and day it did rain lightly and when we woke in the morning we found our sons bottom bunk at the rear was wet and with further investigations we clearly saw water coming in the rear side door seal, from the fixed window and from the locks. And after booking various sites around the country for the school holidays we have been informed that the parts wont be available until at least 18th September. So as new caravanners we were on a high when we purchased it but now we have been brought back down to earth with a huge bump and have lost faith in the caravan world. Any feed back would be much appreciated.

My mother has a compass corona fixed bed model & that one leaks as well. The dealer told her it's a problem with the stiffness of the small offside door. New parts are on order but the quoted delay was about 4 months in her case.

Many thanks for that Glenn. Being our first caravan we were taken back with this and other problems and we have been told a similar length of time for parts which is unacceptable although the dealer has not mentioned why the rear door does this and Compass/Explorer Group don't wont to know and refer me back to my dealer to sort the problem.

Any comments with regards to Compass Corona 556 water problems are very welcome. The rear door seems to be an issue?

Graham, it frustrates me when I read these stories. I live a stones throw away from the explorer factory, and have been on a visit through work.

In fact the wifes uncle is an cabinet fitter in the factory.

Although I have a Bailey myself I would love the chance to speak to the managment team and show them threads like yours and similar ones i have read over the years.

If it was my company I would want to know.

Now i am not saying other manufacturers are perfect its just that i notice the explorer complaints and boy is there a lot.

I know you will be eventually sorted with this problem so don't let it put you off caravanning!!

Regards

John

John, many thanks for that. I live in Durham city but after reading other comments regarding the Explorer Group it would be good driving to the premises on Consett as I don't think the Manager or Director would spare you a minute. I looked at the Bailey equivalant and wish I had of bought that. All we want is a new caravan that we can use rather than mopping up all the time. Wish I could go to the factory myself to apply all the glues and sealants etc to make sure nothing is missed to stop the water coming in. After reading more on the forum there is a serious concern with the rear garage door as they call it.

We have 2005 Avante 556.

We do get some, sometime alot of condensation building up on the rear door and sometimes the sheets get a little wet. The water can gather in the black rubber seal and can look like it's leaked in, but I don't think that it has, in our situation.

I usually check it each day, dry it off and air it for a wee while and it's fine again. Rarely does this happen every night.

Our dealer also fitted a couple of extra latches, which do seem to pull the door in a bit tighter. They said that this was to counteract the flimsy door lock.
