New Gas Regulator

We picked our new van up last week and it had the red gas cylinder connected to show us how everything worked. However I've got a butane cylinder and the dealer changed the regulator accordingly.

When I tried to connect it at home I couldn't get the valve to open for the gas to come through.

Am i doing something wrong or is it the regulator?

I think you have got your info a bit confused. The regulator fitted will accept both butane and propane, it is the hoses and connections to the cylinders that are different. If you have a correct butane hose then you need to ensure the cylinder conector is the correct one as some are screw thread and some are push on connectors. If the valve will not open then it is either not correctly seated, or is the wrong connector. If you have any doubts then go back to the dealer, or to a local Calor dealership and ask them to check out your system.

The connector is push on and sits on ok but the valve won't open. I used the cylinder on my old van and worked perfectly well.

From what you say maybe it's the wrong connector, I'll check with the dealer.

Many thanks

Still a conumdrum. If the connector is connected through a hose to the regulator then it should be ok. These have unique fittings so only the correct way will work. Howqever, as you say it was ok on your last van then I am wondering if you still have a 28mb regulator somehow connected to your 30 mb regulator. Don't know how but you should ahve anew hose, new cylinder connector and new regulator for it all to work. Get it checked out is the bets bet.

Is it indeed a "New van" or a pre 2006 van new to you?

If indeed its a new van it could only be sold to you with a 30mBar regulator and this must be fixed to the van structure. Or that is my understanding of current legal regulation.

Have you checked the red valve that is below the regulator, I think it needs to be in the vertical plain for the gas to flow? (Ours is a 2004 Bailey)I assume the valve is on the new vans as well.

We have got valves in the van as well (by the cooker) may pay to check them as well.
