Hi All

I am sure I posted this already but can't find it, We are in the process of buying a New Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD V6. My questions are around the tow bar and stability etc.

I can have a tow bar fitted at the dealers, but was wondering if it's better to have it done by a specialist company ??

Lutz posted about an electronic stabiliser but the dealer just looked blank when I asked him ?? ( I'm sure your right Lutz and not the dealer )

As the £50k is going to be a ten year investment for the Van + Car, I want to try to make sure I get it right the first time. If anyone has any ideas about sensible aids to add to the safety when towing it would be much appreciated. I am aware of the fact that when asking a question that is open I may get different opinions. But these will sure be better than my own, seeing so I don't really have any.

The van we will purchase will be either a Senator Louisiana or a Bessacarr Cameo, either van will be new so I can also have fitted any improved aids before delivery.

Thanking you in advance and one day I hope to be as active as some of you on this forum helping others

best regards

Val & Frank

Hi

We bought a GC 3.0V6 CRD Limited and honestly say it is the finest tow and solo vehicle we have had, stability with the caravan on the back is great (we have a lunar lexon). As for the towbar we got a Brink Eclipse fitted by an independant fitter, Our Jeep dealer actualy advised getting it fitted by an independent fitter . I am sure you will be well satisfied with the GC, fuel consumption is around 23mpg towing , 28 solo.

Brinks are OEM for many manufacturers, my Disco 3 uses a brinks bar branded Land Rover. Many bars now are plug in anyway I'd be surprised if the ne Jeep isn't so I don't see what the issue is. In fact due to the plug in nature of the electrics and the bar they can even be done as a diy job.

I'm not surprised that the dealer gave a blank look when talking about electronic stabilisers, most don't know about the cars they sell let alone towing aids that they don't sell!! Have fun and enjoy it.
