hi Nick,
welcome to the forum,
it may be a question of what bar is avialable for the 97 galaxy, my preference "allthought it never used to be" is a swan neck detachable one which I have on the meriva it is dead easy to attach and uncouple and does not need a special ALKO ball if you later get a van with alko tow hitch fitted that been said any towbar that has type approval (just about every one on the market) would do the job.
I would also consider when the bar is fitted going with 13pin electrics it is much simpler and you only have one plug on the car.
I will do a google later and see if one sticks out that I would recommend .

Have a look on here for the three types of available towbar for your 97 Ford Galaxy, if you intend to fit it your self ? the rear bumper will require a cut out making for the towbar, all three types say the same..
You will also get an idea of the price for the different styles, swan neck, detachable, & fixed flange type of towbar, if you go for the fixed flange type have a Alko type towball fitted, it will possibly save you having to get it changed at a later date if you buy a van with a built in stabiliser fitted...

I used Towequipe for my 06 Ford detachable bar, at the time they were selling these off and got a real bargain at circa £120, had a look for yours and including electrics, they are £194 for a Ford one or £179 for Bosal who also make the genuine Ford ones?!

hi,
thanks for the input i'm getting there i think,
i have no problem fixing the frame to the car and it's a shame to have to cut the bumper but thats one of those things.
i think the best thing i could do is get out there and start looking and talking to folk to find out what will be best for my needs. nothing like chatting to people to find out whats what eh.
we are in bourne pe10 south lincs so if any reccomdations for dealers, workshops in this neck of the woods gratefully recieved.
many thanks,
nick
