Newbie - Bailey ranger 550/6 awning advice please

I have a Bailey Ranger 550/6 since Feb, been away a few times and looking forward to summer hols with the kids....

I see from the owners manual the awning size for this van is 989. I measured 970 when I measured from ground, round the top to ground again.

My question is. Should I order a 975 or a 1000 size awning - generally should I be going for something slightly larger or smaller.

We are looking at a Pyramid Tuscany awning because we cannot afford a Isobella or Bradcot. Any comments on pyramid awning also well accepted.

Is it worth going for alloy poles?

Any help appreciated prior to ordering from Towsure.

Hi Gary

Can't help with the make but from what I have been told you should ignore the awning size given in your handbook and ask an awning supplier. Even if your not going to buy from say Isabella you could go to one of their suppliers and tell them what van you have and they will tell you what size you need, as measured by Isabella. Once you know the size to get you can go anywhere you want.

I too have a Bailey Ranger 550/6 and had the same problem. I contacted Bailey and they confirmed the size as 989. The size interval you need should contain this. (You can usually fit an awning which is plus or minus 15cm, and elsewhere on the forum others have had pieces added or taken in.) My van came with a 3m Pyramid Orion awning in their Size 14. I didn't erect this but it is the correct size. I wanted an Isabella Ambassador Alpha, also 3m. The Isabella awning size website finder doesn't have anything listed for the Ranger 550/6! In the end I found a 2007 secondhand one in the Isabella Size G18, which is fine. I sold the Pyramid Orion though I still have the groundsheet should you need to buy one. Hope you find what you want.

We have a Bailey Ranger 550/6 and use 2 different awnings on the van... we have a suncamp 260 for weekends and a Bradcot size 990.. they both fit perfect.... We got our Bradcot awning last month 2nd hand from Mendip caravans now known as discover and used it last week and were very happy with it...
