As a newbie to caravan ownership it seems there's little information on new sale discounts, publically available trade in values etc. Been to a couple of shows and it seems that dealers are prepared to offer a 5% discount off list price and waive the normal circa £500 OTR charge.

I'm very interested in the new Bailey 6 Wyoming and am able to secure at £15,695 OTR which is just over 5% off list with waived OTR charge. Would be really interested in what margin dealers really have to play with i.e. has anyone achieved a better deal on a new Bailey. Would also be interested in what peoples views of the Bailey resale value viz-a-viz Swift.

The second contender to the Bailey 6 Wyoming is the Swift Europa 620 (same layout as the Wyoming) but I feel the Wyoming with its increased spec. warrants the extra £2k. Any views on this from either camp very much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Tony

I waited to see what other, more experienced, forum members would have to say on this but as there's been no comment, I'll share my experience with you.

Brand new to 'vanning and did a lot of research before the purchase of a new Abbey 416 GTS. Don't need four berths as no kids to take care of, but wanted a home-from-home and plenty of room to chill out. Achieved that!

The dealer I went to was extremely helpful, with one of the salesmen being a 'vanner himself and applying no pressure to buy.

The deal he offered for a nearly new 'van was amazing, having ALL the accessories thrown in (2Xgas bottles/waste/water carriers/110 Ah battery/wheel clamp/awning) and a few hundred off the ticket price. I couldn't take the offer then, as my care was not capable of towing it (Astra hatchback) and as I was looking to get another motor, didn't want the pressure of buying the 'van then getting a place to store and then getting it there, I had to walk (reluctantly) away.

Anyway, we parked the idea until we wnt to the NEC show last October and had a look. Not with the intent of buying new I might add!

As luck would have it, my wife spotted the sales staff from the dealership and we had a chat, "just for grins", as they say! Upshot was, we bought a new 'van, with all the gear, as before but was not able to move much on the price. Still a good deal though, as we were able to swap the awning for one that we really wanted and got another water carrier plus many other sundries (toilet liquids/sink bowl etc.) thrown in. Oh! And they fiited a motor mover for free, I only paid the cost of purchase and got a discount on the shelf price too.

I'm sure that there are loads of people who may be able to get more for less, or have opinions on what represents good value, but if the deal suits you and your pocket, go for it.

Good luck

Hi Tony

We bought our Bailey Ranger 500/5 at the NEC last October.

We got a 5% discount and didn't have to pay the delivery charge. We also got free the stabiliser, hitchlock, waste and clean water barrels, water pump, battery, spare wheel and carrier, electric cable, hoses, gas bottle and a
