Newbie to forum

Hi all

I've just registered on the forum and want to say hello

I'm Mark from Sheffield

I've returned to caravaning after quite some time and have just taken delivery of a lovely little 1986 Lunar Planet Mercury 2 berth

We had a bit of a problem with getting it down my driveway and on to the parking spot but we managed it eventually. We had a couple of those "Oh Hell" moments due to the brakes being a bit on the dud side but we prevented the caravan running away in to the woodland and river thats at the back of our house

Anyway I've just been having a look inside the caravan and you wouldn't believe it is nearly 30 years old, theres no damp, leaks, mould etc. I was reliably informed its only had one previous owner, they really looked after it

I've been having a poke around the electrics and they leave a little to be desired, old fuses and brittle connectors tell me I'm in for a bit of tweaking here and there. I think someone has rewired the 230v system but I see no reason why it won't work fine

The exterior is in good nick too, could do with a wash and a general tidy up but that shouldn't take long

Anyway thats enough for now, can you tell I'm a tad excited?

Hope to speak to some of you soon

Mark (Shallot)

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing your exciting news about your new caravan. How brilliant to get it just in time for this bank holiday weekend.

Your 1986 Lunar sounds great. Hope you get the electrics sorted out soon and don't forget we always love seeing photos of caravan restoration projects!

Check out some of our 'Me and my caravan' features to see what we mean.

Anyway, thanks for posting, it's great to have you on board.

Hi Mark, I'm a newbie to the caravan world too, picked ours up last weekend and can't wait to get away in it in 2 weeks time to test everything out. I'm as excited as you

ps My son lives in Sheffield.

Hi Kate

It will be a while until we go on our first outing as I'm waiting for my new car to come from the factory

I'm getting a Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.6 Diesel and they have advised a 12 week wait

I will be using the time to get some permanent storage sorted and getting the caravan cleaned etc

Can't wait πŸ™‚

Hi GeordieGirl

Thanks for your reply

Sheffield is my hometown, I've moved about a bit but came back in 2011. We live in Deepcar now, its very nice and quiet

Hi there Shallot (Mark), you are obviousley very enthusastic, I will admit I am more into the newer caravans, but in a few years who knows, welcome to the forum.

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum. I also have a son who lives in Sheffield. Great place. Better get the brakes fixed soon for those Sheffield hills. πŸ™‚

Greetings Mark Shallot. I only skirted round Sheffield once when visiting Peak district and a few times travelling down the M1 from Leeds.
