anthony,

A van that age is worth what you can get for it,offer him 900quid then settle somewhere in the middle, that is if you think the van is ok, can you smell any damp? is the chassi sound? are the wheels and tyres ok? tyres over five years old should be changed, you need 6 or 8 ply van tyres,( a good bargaining point).

will your car pull it? 1.8 diesel at about 123bhp shouldnt have a problem, but first how heavy is the caravan, look on the vin plate ,(down by the door), then, what is your cars kerb weight? check hand book, as long as the caravan is not heavier than the car you should be ok, 85% is recomended by the caravan club, and is widley accepted as a safe match, any heavier and you could finish up with the tail wagging the dog.

let us know how you get on

good luck Tony A.

Hi Tony A,

Thanks for the advice, I got the van for 1200 and towed it home yesterday. It was a bit nerve racking at first but good for a novice. The van will be an ideal starter and has a full new awning and loads of extras.

Thankx again

Tony.
