hi everyone
we just finished tidying away from our weekend away at charmouth, had a good time and stayed at newlands holidays, nice place to stay.
this was our 3rd stay in the caravan, we stayed in it the weekend we pick it up the n the folowing weekend aswell.
now its been 2-3 weeks since we used it untill yesterday and when we got there an set everything up etc etc there was flys all over the place, just kept appearing for the first few hours, then started to dissapear, then just the odd 1 this morning, they have obviously been in there while its been sat up.
is there anything i can do to try an stop the little buggers, so we dont get plagued next time we take it away??

oh, and is it just me that always feels awkward carrying the thetford toilet cassette across the site to empty it, i never seem to see anybody carrying theirs, unless they do it early hours of the morning!!

Hi Josh nice to know you are enjoying the caravan scene, did you leave anything food wise in the van to attract the flies??
And why do you feel akward about emptying the loo, just carry on, after all we all have one and it's got to be emptied.
Seen alot of folk drive up to the the elsan point to save carrying it if it's the older type without the built in wheels. They can be a bit heavy for the senior folk amongst us. So that could be your answer.

Josh, Himself has many a happy meeting at the emptying points and it can take a long time for him to return which can be a little distressing when I am needing to use it. It is the place that makes us all even no matter how big/small/new or old our outfits the stuff that is in them is still the same. You will get over your embarrassment so dont let it bother you.Sproket has the right tool for the job.Pardon the pun!!!

Josh, never worry about carrying it because as gagakev says we all have to, perhaps you are not nosy enough yet

The only thing about it that should give you cause for concern is splash back while emptying it and the number of nearby folk who faint

The other thing to watch is you dont lose the cap down the bog, went to a site once where the emptying point was at ground level, the cap fell down the hole and there I am laying flat out on the ground with my whole arm down the bog, kissing the ground and some one walks around the corner, turns around and walks out again, try and explain that one

hi guys, thanks for the replys, i dont think there was any food left in there, we check everything and check again!
its really annoying, might try hanging some of those fly strips up while its sat up, were going again in 3 weeks so will see how it is then,
i think we are going to go down at the weekend to bring it home to give it a good clean through. bit of a trek though being a hours drive each way

im sure i will get used to the toilet thing, just 1 of the many things to get used to doing.

I take it you leave it on site.
Could a mouse have got in. It wouldn't take bluebottles long to sniff out a corpse. This seems unlikely though.
Where we are staying in Cornwall it's alive with the buggers when the sun comes out and the side of the van that faces the sun is covered with them and for some particular reason they like it around the fridge vents. Probably the warmth. Needless to say some get into the caravan despite using the flyscreens and I've caught lots. This time of year they've had chance to build their numbers up but once the first frost comes it will be curtains for them.
