I own a Terrano 2.7TD and checked with the Caravan Club who told me the noseweight limit is 100kg. I tow a Bessacarr twin axle without any problems. There's plenty enough power assuming you don't want to race other motorists. The Terrano also has a high seating position which gives a good rear view through the caravan as well. The front seats are not particularly comfortable but are adequate for long journeys. For a big 4x4 it's reasonably economical to run (averages about 27mpg solo).

we sold ours last year , 2.7td lwb we found it gutless to tow with and not particularly stable.with any weight on the back the steering was vague and i was never confident it would go where i wanted it to go.maybe the shockers were past their best, i dont know . but coupled with mid 20s mpg at best and being a swine to fit in tesco car park we offloaded it and are seeking a tdci 130 mondeo.

I had a 99 auto SE 7 seater from almost new - used it to commute 100 miles a day. Traded it at 60K because I suspected the diesel pump was on the way out (incurable oscilating revs at idle) and didn't really like it. It was too narrow, steering was inprecise, gutless until the turbo came in (particularly noticable when pulling away up a steep incline) the front tyres wore out fast, the rear row seat comfort and design was awful, even the grandchildren complained if they were in it for more than half an hour and it was thirsty if you loaded it up on a trip.

I thought it really needed a bigger engine to make it viable, and of course there is a 3litre version now. Never used it as a towcar and got about 28 mpg commuting but less than 25 on fast loaded continental trips - wouldn't have another and know from experience that there are much better 4X4's out there.

im glad someone else found the steering vague.everyone else with a terrano ive spoke to has had no problems.i thought maybe it was me being fussy.mine was a 94 but by the looks of things the newer ones aint much better.i found mine very tiring to drive as i was always having to correct the steering and you had to be constantly 100% alert even on an empty road as the thing particularly when towing would just wander off course.it didnt make for a relaxed driving experience.i was lucky enough to sell mine for more than i paid for it and id never have another.

Tom,

We've had our year 2000 2.7td se for a year now. Runs a little hot when loaded up, tows well though, but a little thirsty. If you go over 2500 revs on motorway journeys, you can see the fuel gauge needle moving. mpg @ 20 when towing. Decent spec. on ours (leather, a/con etc). I thought the ride was ok until I got in my wifes C3 the other day, which made light work of our local speed humps. Try and get a late a model as possible, the 3 litre looks a good bet.

Mark
