we have a 2.2dci xtrail,it is the 136bhp model(6mts old)we have a strange noise which starts at approx 2300rpm when under load.we are wondering if any other x-trial users have this problem as nissan say they know there is a problem but dont know how to solve it
 
There was a problem with the timing chain that sounds like what you describe.We had that done on the first X but Nissan know about that.Hope you get it sorted successfully
 
The same question was raised in the Honest John section of this Saturdays Telegraph. He suspects that something is interfering with the oil supply to the timing chain tensioner. He suggests that a precautionary early oil and filter change might solve the problem.
