No pressure with whale water pump

Hi, can anyone help?

The water pump in my caravan only works sometimes! The pressure has always been a bit hit and miss but now it wont work in the shower and only sometimes in the kitchen and basin. I have tried to change the whale water pump and it makes no difference. Does anyone know anything i can check please?

Not easy to diagnose without knowing a bit more. The pump may be activated by either microswitches on the taps or by a pressure switch - if the latter, look along the water piptes for something with a knurled knob on top of it - turning this adjusts the pressure switch setting and should enable the pump to run to a higher pressure.

If not, look at the pipes immediately behind the pump entry point and then trace them through. Could be something as simple as a kink in the pipe - quite common even on new vans.

Another check is that the pump is getting the full battery voltage. To do this yau really need a voltmeter and check at the socket on the outside of the van. Whale pumps have two metal strips on the inside of this socket which connect to the pump - try cleaning these with some fine sandpaper (and the matching contacts on the pump).

Is the battery in good condition - e.g. does it operate the lights etc well ? Is you problem when connected to site mains or when running on the battery only.

Hope this may help. If not suggest you post make and year of van with answers to the above and I'm sure helpful suggestions will be forthcoming.
