having just returned from a caravan club site and was ,not amazed how many parents let there children play ball games,ie football, rugby, tennis, bouwles, cricket around there caravan.

whilst my van is not new -6 years old i cant believe the club never appear to inforce the no ball game rules.

only last month my van was hit by children aged 13+ playing with leather footballs, not the footballs that fly in the wind and when confronted the parents the attitude seemed to say what problem have you got.Only £678 worth of damage to a panel which i succesfully claimed against the parents of the child.

with the football season about to kick off i wonder have many vans will be damaged.fortunatly mine was hit whilst i was watching tv,and therefore i make a strong counter claim with the parents admitting liability, but what is it today,is there no respect for peoples property!!!!!!!

Hello Dave

I agree with you dave these parents just dont care there are in the caravan or out at the pub while the kids are riding bikes round your caravan or like what you say playing ball games round your caravan which is so annoying these club sites should make the rules no cycles around caravans and no balls as the same.we get our caravans and cars either new or second hand which is your pride and joy and then a kid will come along and damage it when i was a kid we were learnt to respect our elders and keep away from other vans when playing. and another thing you will get these people who own dogs I own a dog myself and pick it up,these people let the dogs dirty all over the campsite while nearly everybody else picks up after the dogs ,these are our sites it is up to us and the wardens to try and look after them and report rule breakers, but what do you do put more signs up and make it look like a pow camp no make the rules more clear thats cleared that off my chest.Ian.L

I'm afraid the "couldn't give a wotsit" and "you can't touch me i'll Sue" brigade have run a mock.

In our (good old days) day, the teacher could give little Jonny a clip around the ear. The bobby on the beat would clip you one and then take you home where your dad would give you another cuffing and ground you for a week, and a week it was.

Now it's ****** off till tea time and if Jonny get's into trouble then sue the teacher who dares to try to assert authority. I can recall at our local country junior school a situation. A child was being so disruptive that no work could be done and he was cheecking the teacher. Now the teacher out of shear frustration only grabbed the child by the jumper and calmly sat him down and told him to shut up and do some work.

However the child blerted out "my dad'll sue you for assult". Do you know, it cost the school a thousand pounds of solicitors and tribunal time to investigate just in case they did sue. No wonder these days the teaching profession are so dispondant.

We as parents used to take our kids (a group of up to 30 adults and children)into the next field to play ball games, but of coarse you risk a farmer prosecuting for tresspass.

It's a mad mad world.

I'm all for kids big and small having a good time.

If we're going to split hairs here, how about those "adults" who think the bit of canvas called the awning is a good place to roar with laughter (following several bottles of plonk) til the small hours.

Some of us do like a sleep and don't need to get up at 6am just to be first in the shower either.

My brother-in-law dared to bring an alarm clock last year. You might hear it ringing at the bottom of the pond at FForest fields. I wanged it there.

Fun, fun and more fun, but consideration for others still should be top of the list.

kids will be kids but unfortunatley there are a few( like in everything these days) that spoil it for everyone else. I have been told by one 8ish year old to shut the **** up or i'll get my dad onto you( he was riding his bike round the car and threw it into the caravan and hid underneath our van from his mates.

i lost the plot got the lad out from underneath the van and by the ear dragged him to his van ( yes i do that to my kids too, and they get a clip around the ear, i got it when i was young and i didnt dare so anything wrong ie rude, drugs, get into any trouble with the law, although i did know how to enjoy myself and many a time had a voilent hangover the next day, but i knew the line i could go to because i was sure i knew what i would get from my dad - or worse my mum - who would give you a whack for every word she was saying to you!!-

my kids do play games and we do allow them to, but only away from peoples vans, if they do, i am striaght up telling them to move or give me the ball, racket etc.

i also have an anwing which i use at night although the onlything you will here is me arguing with hubby that he cheated at the card game, we do like to sit have a drink and enjoy our time. it is an hoiday and all too soon were back at work.

its just that some poeple dont care, the world is changing but upon my travels i have found that the ones that are unruly and let there kids run roit and make the biggest noise are the ones that if you complain and tell their child off are the first to say they will sue/tell you to go away and make more noise/congratulate their kids for being a pain in the arse and generally be worse than before, but like i said before i started rambling they are the few that make it worse for the rest of us.

so maybe its time that the caravan sites start to get tougher and do something about it.

I agree totally with the original posting

Even the most doting parent/grandparent(and I'm both) would not wish a holiday spoiled by their offspring damaging their own or other people's outfits.

It can take 6 months for replacement panels to arrive and its not unreasonable to expect that having joined a club for caravans and paid site fees on a caravan site that the environment should be a safe one for you and your pride and joy.

If you were parking on a grass verge or layby that would be at you own risk etc

This is not in any way anti children but is more to do with respecting other people and their property/space.

This is a subject that ALWAYS brings out the worst in people. The parties involved always become totally polarised with never, ever any middle ground.

I had damage done to one of my caravans caused by a dad throwing a frisbee to his child. It was a dent the size of a side plate. Because I dared to complain I was made to feel a complete pariah.

When sites take the trouble to set aside areas for the express purpose of playing ball games etc, I think it's too much to ask of parents to see that their children use them.

Correction to the last sentence of my previous posting: "I don't think it is too much to ask parents to see that their children use them".
