Noise whilst towing

We have just bought a new abbey aventura 317, which is fitted has standard with a 3004 winterhof stabiliser, and whilst travelling we get a creeking noise freom the towball area, seems worse when we go round corners, could you please tell me is this normal?? or do we have a problem ?? many thanks in advance Craig

Ensure that your towball is clean, no rust etc.

Spray the towball and the pads inside the Winterhoff with brake cleaner (Halfords).

I have to do mine occasionally.

did you remove all the paint from the towball if it was new ?. my father had the same creaks from a 3004 alko hitch and we found the paint from the towball all over the friction pads, when cleaned up he had no further problems.

OK, if all the above fail, and it probably will.

Try this

Next time you go out with the van, hitch up, attach your mirrors, check the hitch then throw a bucket of water over it.

I know, sounds daft. but nearly always works

Steve

I have also had creaking and groaning from the Alco hitch,. and to cure this I have found the best solution is to rub the ball with a dry Scotchbright pad until it is smooth and shiny.I now keep a Scotchbrite pad in the boot. Best of luck from Dave.

Hi. I have the Abbey Freestyle which is based on the Aventura 317.Mine creaks away and I presumed this was normal and have done nothing about it. We have towed over 2000 miles now with it and everything is okay. My advice - not to worry..
