Hi,

Not a hope.

The ferries only operator on "heavy use" routes, so really your choices are down to:

Dover - Calais. Big choice of operators, 1 hour 30 crossing time, many ferries each day. This could well be the cheapest crossing. Somewhere central in Normandy, like Lisieux, is an easy 300 km (about 180 miles) drive from Calais.

Folkestone - Coquelles (Eurotunnel). Often good deals if you book early. Crossing time around 45 minutes. Same driving as Dover Calais.

Dover - Zeebrugge. A bit out of the way - Zeebrugge is just over the border in Belgium, so will add an hour to the Normandy journey, but some really good deals can be had with Norfolkline.

Portsmouth - Caen. Right into the middle of Normandy. You will need to price up the costs of driving the extra 400 miles (approx) from Calais to Normandy and back again, and compare the extra fuel costs with the extra price of the Caen ferry.

Whatever you do, Normandy is a great introduction to France, and you should enjoy your trip.

slapping the back of my neck when other drivers salute us,

Didnt know i was so popular. :)

Quote off the other half - I'm dangerous enough driving a car

never mind towing a van.
