hi there, can anyone suggest a good caravan site for us 2 weeks 19th June in normandy, around the landing beaches, we like to be within easy walking of a town or villiage so that we dont need to take the car for meals or a drink.

Would you advise us to book at this time of year?

Regards Maddy

Hi maddeleine, a few years ago we went to Le brevendent which is between pont-lEveque and Liseux. Its a Castels site with all usual ameneties, for full details go on the les-castels.co.uk web site, there are also acouple more chateau drancvourt and la bien assie, which may also suit you. Hope this helps - Alb

Forgot to mention as far as ferry costs go try the CC or CC&C for the most competetive quotes. You are probably a bit late for the best quotes as to get the cheapest quotes you need to book early - Alb

Hi

Have a look at La tang de Haize at La Haye du puits. We have been using the site for the past 15 years, ideal for the Normandy landing beaches and 3/4 mile from the town of La Haye du Puit. About 1 hr drive from Cherbourg. A great site and the owner Patrice speaks excellent english. Fishing on site and good layout.Ideal for children if you have them. Pitchs are a very ggod size and the Loos are very clean. The site is quiet of a night. Used by the C&CC for summer rally in late july /August. Easy to find from the port.

We would recommend it on all aspects but if you are looking for a base to explore the landing beaches I would recommend it no problem. If you need more details post another message and I will reply.

La Haye is a good size town without being too big and has 2 supermarkets and a open market on a Wednesday and 3-4 good resaurants. I would recommend the Commerce because they cater for veggies which my wife is one.

Hi,

At that time of year I would not think so, but to be on the safe side you could always e- mail Patrice at:-

www.etang-des-haizes.com

and he would confirm any requests you make one way or another.

If you need any other info don't hesitate to send another post and I will reply a.s.a.p

Hi, Me again,

If you e mail Patrice just say Rob and Nicky Leather have recommended you and he's bound to double his price he he!!

If you need any directions how to get there we will be willing to help as the C&CC directions are good until you get into the outskirts of La Haye then they take you round the block. Also the local bank in the town is commerce national who do accept travellers cheques and have a cash machine that accepts most current U.K Visa/Access cards. I hope the weather is good and your walks into the town are not too staggered coming back ( there again I think that could be the idia, I don't know why but it always takes Nicky and I twice as long to walk back)As I said Le Commerce in the town is as far as we are concerned the best restaurant/bar as it caters for grade one carnovours such as my-self and son and my wife who is a veggie.Prices are good (not expensive) and a very good range of typical French and local foods. If you need any help re which Normany beaches and museums to visit just E.Mail.

Hi Rob, Maddy again, thanks for all your good information and advice regarding the camp site.

We are travelling from Calais and the route looks fairly straight forward, but any advice regarding actually finding the site would be appreciated as round and round french villiages has seemed to be a speciality of ours over the years!

I will mention your name on arrival, it seems this will ensure the camp owners will be keeping a dubious eye on us at all times!!

Kind regards

Madeleine

Hi Maddy,

Sorry for not getting back to you, but kept checking the postings and it said the last posting was from my-self and does not take into consideration the comments section.

I will reply as a proper posting.

Hi Madeleine. Le Columbier has just become available. It is an ex-Castels site, and as at 7th June, still had vacancies in August. It is situated in Moyaux 11 miles from Le Brevedant and can be booked through The Caravan Club or Select Sites. www.select-site.com 01873 859876. Le Brevedent was booked up weeks ago for this period. I cannot offer any personal recommendations on this site as it is my first time abroad with my caravan.

Regards Dave
