We are looking to go to North Wales in early July and will be using a CC site with a twin axle caravan (Elddis Supersirroco).

The sites earmarked are Gaer Hyfryd, Coed-y-Llyn and Coed Helen. Has anyone been to these sites and can report back, especially regrding the twin axle van. There will only be " of us in late 50's.

Pamela,

I live in the area, next to Porthmadog/Portmeirion, and friends have stayed at both Coed-y- Llwyn and Coed Helen.

I have visited Gaer Hyfryd at Corwen. It is a peaceful site on grass pitches. The entrance to the site used to be a nightmare, but due to the main road now by-passing the site, the old road is now a cul de sac, so you can take your time entering and leaving the site.

Coed Helen is in Caernavon and is mainly just a large oval on grass with Portakabin buildings for the toilet block. Having said that they are clean but a bit cramped.

Our favourite is Coed-Y-Llwyn just off the main road, Dolgellau to Porthmadog.

This is a full modern caravan club site. Part grass and part hardstanding. Escellent loo block. All pitches are level although the site slopes allowing some nice views. Have stayed on this site myself for 3 weeks when we had a new kitchen and bathroom fitted. Accross the lane from the site entrance is a good country pub, serving good value meals. You do not get any noise from the pub.

This is the site i always recommend to friends due to it's central position and quality of facilities.

The other two are in my mind too far west or too far east to cover the whole area without travelling miles.

No problens for a twin axle. I myself have a Swift Conqueror 655 twin axle.

Only Coed Helen has a narrow approach but it is quite possible with a twin axle.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

Hamer
