Earlier this year, I found a purse containing a couple of hundred pounds plus credit cards etc. I took it straight to the police station. I left my contact details, later that evening, the grateful owner phoned to say thank you.

Then about three weeks later, I found another purse outside a shop. I opened it, and again, there was in excesss of £200. The police station was only a couple of hundred yards away, so I took it there. They took my details again, no phone call from the owner this time but it doesn't matter.

Last night, I went to the cashpoint and requested £100, I stupidly walked off without the money.

I can't believe I did that. Five minutes later, I realised what I'd done and rushed back to the cashpoint. No money, (but the cashpoint said 'out of order' there was a group of teenagers and I asked them if they'd taken the money. All said no. So I went into the post office and withdrew another £100.

I rang my bank just now to see if the money actually dispensed and sadly it did.

I think if I ever find money again, I'll keep it.

Must be the old adage finders keepers

I'd ask the bank that runs the cashpoint if they have any security cameras that may have shown someone else "pocket" your money.
The bank can also tell who , when , how much was withdrawn immediately after you. I doubt it will help but may make you feel better

Thanks Dusty, but I won't ask if there's any cctv because it was my fault, I left the cash there. I'm sure it was the teenagers but hey ho.....

My mind wasn't on what I was doing as I'd just had a bit of worrying news.

Not all teenagers are the same, one Sunday in September, I used a cash point at Sainsburys, the machine took the card in the normal way, but then stopped working all together. I stood there for 5 minutes and then went into the store to complain. As I was talking to customer services a young asian lad came up to me and gave me my card back. Apparently the machine spat it out two or three minutes after I had walked away. I hate to think what could have happened if some one dishonest had taken it. As I was away from home, I had no contact information so I could stop the card.

You dont have to change Lisa, just because some others arent as honest as you.

Take the high road and be honest, you will sleep better for it.

I find this quite sad, why change your honest ways to that of some low life AH's ?

Go and behave in your usual way, you'll not be happy going against your normal ways!

Hi,

I met a young boy, sobbing, clutching a £10 note, outside a supermarket. I asked what was wrong. He sobbingly explained that he originally had two £10 notes, but a gang of yobs had grabbed the other and run.
"Didn't you shout for help?"
"Yes, but nobody seemed to hear me".
"How loud did you shout?"
He demonstrated ........ barely more than a squeak.
So I grabbed the other £10, and ran.

Lisa, get in touch with you bank as cash machines dont just sit there with cash hanging out of them. If you do not take the cash quick enough the machine swallows it back up. I know this as it happened to my wife. It was only a tenner but by the time she had put her card back in her purse, the machine swallowed the cash back up.................

Hi

Thanks for the replies, and more importantly, the support.

Chris, I did ring the bank and they said the money was dispensed from the machine.

Valuable lesson learnt, always make sure you've got your wits about you when dealing with cash, or not, in my case. LOL!

I'm more chilled about it now, if I did find another purse, I'm sure I'd hand it in again. I couldn't really spend money that didn't belong to me, in all honesty.

It's a shame about the money Lisa and it was an expensive lesson but there are more important things in life than money.
I believe in Karma, whoever pinched your money will lose out some other way some other time.
Look on the bright side, it could have been worse

You could be the lady who says that her husband binned the Euro Millions winning ticket for 113 million quid!!

Stress turns brains to mush doesn't it, Hope your worrying news has had a good resolution. I'm glad that your sense of personal integrity has re-asserted itself. At the end of the day it doesn't matters how others behave; what matters is that we can answer to ourselves for the right behaviour and moral standards. Well done.
