I purchased a 5 berth, 1990 Elddis Cyclone late last year, We checked the van for signs of damp etc, all seemed OK! however we have put our van onto a seasonal pitch and have been using it the last few weekends however have noticed as we lift the seat cusions to make up the rear double bed the under side of the cusions and back rests seem damp, at first I thought it was just me and that it was probably just very cold but now I do think it is damp. Again I've gone around the van looking for damp patches to walls, ceiling, floor etc and can't find any evidence of damp. Another theory I have is could this be caused from pure condensation or the van sweating, as the van is sitting locked up on sight, all blinds and windows closed from one week to the next without ventilation then we come along on a weekend to use the van, turning on heating, general body heat from a family of 4 and breathing etc. Any comments appreciated and also would this be easy to repair if it is Damp. Many Thanks. Andrew.

Andrew

We had a van around the same age as yours. We went away one weekend when it was cold and heavy rain. I didn't air the van properly, turned the heating on and within a short time, water was dripping down the walls, cupboards etc (condensation). Later that night one of the dogs leant against the closed curtains for a while and the curtain was wet through.

I don't want to make an assumption but from reading postings on here, I think a van of that age might well have damp.

Somebody else will help you with that.

Lisa.

Sounds very much like condensation. In 1990 the vans generally didn't have condensation boards built between the walls and backrests. What are the bed boards like , slatted or solid ?

I would try and get a little air circulating whilst your not there Try and leave the backrests and cushions away from cold surfaces ie walls and in a position for air to circulate as best as possible. When you arrive on site bang the heater on and open all the windows.

You can buy crystals to absorp excess moisture from the air as well.

If damp is the problem due to ingress it can be very expensive to put right. Depends on the extent and location.

Fingers crossed it isn't !
