Noth Devon sites - advice needed!

Hi there,

We're already thinking ahead to next summer! This year we had a wonderful holiday at Trethem Mill in Cornwall which was my perfect site and next year fancied trying Devon - probably somewhere between Appledore/Barnstaple and Illfracombe/Combe Martin. We're looking for somewhere with well spaced, level pitches with electric at least, prefer lanscaped sites, also not TOO commercial/holiday club-type. We have two children, one 7, one 2 and an inflatable boat/outboard. Is Watermouth Cove too commercial and noisy? We looked at Ramslade in South Devon as the boating round Salcombe looked good but we couldn't work out the CC link and it seemed to have had some poor reviews.

Any help appreciated

Thanks, Liz

Hi We have been going to North Devon for years on and off. We have stayed at Hidden Valley quite a bit which is a lovely quiet site but still has a bar and restaurant and brilliant play area for the kids, we stayed at stowford farm also once but this was too big a site for what we like. It is a lovely area,We also went to cornwall this summer our first time we stayed at carlyon bay by st austell which was very central for visiting the area.

We have spent some time (both in tents and caravans) at the Damage Barton affiliated site. Always seemed good value and you can walk to the beach from the site itself. It is in the CC book.

Hi Tracy, Thanks for your response. Hidden Valley looks lovely but a few reviews have commented about road noise - did you find this a problem? It's certainly well positioned for where we want to go. Regards, Liz

Go to Croyde Bay!

Not been for many years, however as a kid the family went for 14 years every summer. Great beach, lovely village and almost central between Barnstable and Iflfracombe.

Great base to explore.

Liz - try Ruda Holiday Parl in Croyde, not cheap but only 100 yds from the beach and great for the kids. If you want a short cut to avoid the horrendous Barnstaple traffic, let me know. we live there so know all the back-doubles. Have a look at the many CL's in N Devon - they're good too.

Thanks Guys, searched Croyde Bay and found there were a few sites so will check out Ruda. I like the sound of a CL with electric hook ups, I'll check out the CC directory! Cheers, Liz
