Have just been reading, on the caravan club website, about the proposed requirement to have number plates on the front of caravans and trailers to match the towing vehicle. This is to aid the number plate recognition cameras. Am I missing something, as it occurs to me that the cameras can just read the number plate on the car? Why number plate on the trailer as well?

For the same reason that you have a plate on the back of the car, Russ - so that it can be identified from the rear as easily as from the front.

I can only think it is to make sure both plates match and an aid to recovering our loved ones if stolen, I WISH!!

I can think of two plausible explanations

1. If you are on a marque rally it will help you find your own in the field

2. It's a further excuse for manufacturers to redesign the front panels

Its obviously so they can identify the caravan if it breaks the speed limit while not attached to the car!! They will want them on the roof next for identification by police helicopters!
