Odd indicator problem

We seem to have an odd problem with the our C5 Car/ Towbar or carvan electrics - and i'd like to get some ideas.

Connected the van up and idicators worked fine - then about 5 mins down the road the left had one stops working (no beeps etc and doesn't work visually either). Stop then turn off the car - no change. Unplug the Caravan connections and replug - then it was totally fine.

This is the second time it's happened (although not 2 in a row).

Any thoughts ?

Hi Mike,

The C5 has a bulb failure warning mechanism?

If yes, then I'd look long and hard at how the electrical connections were made into the wiring loom of the car.

Also look for corrosion or bad contact in the awful 12N connector - pure copper pins and sockets in a wet environment are not ideal. This could also be fooling the bulb warning system.

Clean the socket and plug as best as you can - don't use WD40 - go to Halfords and buy an aerosol can of electrical contact cleaner / preservative.

And it could be a fault with the indicator / turn relay.

Mike, I had a similar problem and found it was the pins in the plug which were closed right up, they have a + shaped cut in them.

I used a small flat bladed screwdriver and opened them up a little, problem cured.
